The Opportunity


The Recreational Therapist will be responsible for providing emotional, and physical services for students who require additional support to thrive in school. They will diagnose learning skill deficits, deliver high-quality services as provided by SESI, and collaborate with both school personnel and families to provide services to students. Every child deserves to reach their full potential and we’re looking to hire an exceptional Therapist who will play an essential role in fueling student success.


Essential duties


  • Confers with parents/legal guardians, administrators, support service providers, and social workers to develop and implement an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student.
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with children (8-12) and adolescents (13-18) and families.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Promotes Illinois state learning standards through well-planned lessons which complement students' individual learning styles.
  • Plans curriculum and prepares lesson plans and other instructional materials to meet the needs of each individual student. include physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.
  • Instructs students in academic subjects and social interaction skills.


The Qualifications


  • Professional licensure including State Teacher Certification. Type 10 SED Certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from a four (4) year college or University.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a school, special education, or behavioral health setting working with children and adolescents is preferred.
