Kootenai Health is currently hiring a patient-focused, compassionate Recreational Therapist with a drive to provide exceptional care to those they serve.

Recreation Therapist

Position Summary:

Plans and directs medically approved recreational programs for patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Typically reports to a manager
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Organizes activities according to the patients' capabilities, needs, and interest
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
  • Performs a variety of tasks
  • Prepares reports for patient's physician describing patients' symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
  • Advises patients to get involved in leisure activities

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Therapist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation required
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation, recreation administration or an equivalent program required

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Exposure to violent and unpredictable individuals
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
  • Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
