General Purpose


The City of Idaho Falls is currently recruiting for a Recreation Supervisor. In this position you will perform a variety of


supervisory duties related to directing, developing, coordinating, and monitoring city recreation programs.


This position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED


Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, Assistant Director, /or Director of Parks and


Recreation.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:


Provides close to general supervision to Recreation Program Specialist(s), and other full-time, part-time and seasonal


workers; assumes duties and responsibilities of Recreation Superintendent in his/her absence.


Essential Functions


Oversees Recreation Staffing for all part time personnel at the Youth Center.


Responsible for learning game rules and officiating/umpiring games when necessary for basketball, baseball, softball,


volleyball, and flag football.


Designs, develops, implements and schedules a variety of youth and adult sports programs and leagues such as baseball,


basketball, softball, football, volleyball, soccer, etc.; evaluates program delivery and identifies areas for improvement and


the benefits to the community and recreation department.


Coordinates, supervises, develops and fosters working relationships with school districts, personnel, businesses, staff and


public in using recreational facilities in a joint use agreement and to enhance recreational programs in the area.


Implements, coordinates and supervises a variety of special events, athletic leagues, tournaments and camps for youth and


adult groups.


Set up and maintain program. Develop a good working relationship with participants and other and resolve any issues or


concerns as needed.


Recruits, trains and supervises seasonal staff through the scheduling of program work assignments, educating them on job


related tasks and responsibilities; evaluates employee performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions


such as advancement, promotion, demotions, suspensions and termination.


Assists with marketing and advertising youth and adult programs by providing material, content, literature, and physical


presence to inform the community of recreational opportunities and programs. Works closely with local businesses in order


to promote programs and receive funding to help maintain on going sports events and activities.


Develops recreational program budget for youth and adult sports programs and submits the same for final approval of


Recreation Superintendent; monitors programs expenditures to insure conformance with established fiscal program.


Designs, develops and implements emergency protocols, participant handbooks, and other reports and materials in order


to maintain current information and program procedures.


Prepares a variety of reports reflecting program success in terms of community participation and cost effectiveness;


prepares periodic budget reports identifying department fiscal activity. Conducts and maintains an inventory of department


supplies, materials, and equipment; informs supervisor of inventory needs and initiates requisition of the same.


Attends various conference and workshops to keep abreast of current trends in community recreation; recommends


changes in department policies, programs and organization to better achieve department g oals. Enforces policies and


administrative procedures for program operations.


Performs related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation from an college or university with a bachelor degree in municipal recreation or some other related field;
  • Education and Experience:


AND


  • Four years (4) of experience in municipal recreation program development and maintenance.


OR


  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
