The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Recreation Specialist. This is a regular, part-time position with benefits.

Who We Are Looking For


Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. Our ideal candidate is energetic, a creative team player who can communicate effectively, multitask, and apply independent judgement. Selected individuals will be responsible for assisting customers, completing financial transactions, answering phones, and assisting with facility needs.


Essential Duties


  • Opens and closes facilities.
  • Provides facility customer service by responding to customer inquiries, addressing concerns, choosing activities based on interests and needs; provides program information, costs and options; processes patron transactions.
  • Supervises staff and volunteers, which may include setting goals and objectives, manages schedules and work priorities, monitors and evaluates performance, facilitates access to resources and training, provides guidance and addresses issues, conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions.
  • Assists with database maintenance.
  • Oversees, plans and directs site-specific programming and special events; creates programming calendars for activities and upcoming events; maintains and develops community relationships to facilitate programming, as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in a youth recreation or adult activity program; and
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency; and
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certifications may be required depending on assignment; or
  • Valid Arizona's Driver's License with acceptable driving record; and
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.


Desired Qualifications


  • Three (3) years college preparation in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field;


This is a regular part-time position, subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four (4) months should another position become available.


The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the City are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
