Recreation Instructor - Zoo

Summary: Plans, organizes, and presents various education programs for Miller Park Zoo (MPZ) visitors, regional schools, and community interest groups both on and off grounds. Develops and delivers conservation-based curriculum to various sized groups of all ages and abilities. Summer Seasonal Educators teach school-age camps and classes, deliver ZooToYou outreach programming and/or assist with our Junior Zookeeper summer camps. Reports to Zoo Education Manager.

• Assist in program animal training.
• Conduct education programming for groups and registered participants.
• Handle ambassador animals while delivering formal and informal presentations.

• Assist the Zoo Education Manager in daily and administrative tasks?

• Ability to effectively teach conservation and biological themes to a wide range of audiences.??
• Willingness and ability to handle a wide variety of animals.
• Exceptional communication skills with people of all ages.
• Self-motivated and outgoing with strong public speaking skills
• Good-natured ability to supervise children.

Supplemental Information

Minimum Age: 18

Required Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid IL driver’s License.

Must pass drug screening and background check.

Dates:

• Flexible hours Tuesday – Saturday; April 1 – May 1 2023.
• 40 hours per week Monday-Friday; May 1 – September 1, 2023.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
