The Position


The City of Portland's Parks and Recreation is seeking a Recreation Coordinator I - Arts to join the team!


This Recreation Coordinator I - Arts position leads in the development, planning, production, and evaluation of a variety of performing arts programs, classes, activities, off-site community engagements, and special events. These programs are specifically designed to introduce and develop skills in the performance arts, including music, dance, theatre, and literary arts to community members of all ages. Although not required, knowledge of or experience in other art forms is a plus.


The Recreation Coordinator I - Arts position collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to assess needs and provide support and direction for programs. This position will incorporate a high level of direct customer service interaction on a daily basis.

Work Schedule and Location:


This position will report to the Multnomah Arts Center located at 7688 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland, OR 97219. Most work will be completed during typical weekday work hours, however occasional weekday evenings or weekends will be required.

Applicants must meet each of the following minimum qualifications.
  • Knowledge of performing arts education and best practices in its planning, development, coordination, and evaluation to best serve the interests of specific communities and the general population.
  • Ability to incorporate the needs of people of diverse ethnic backgrounds, ages, physical abilities, and interests into program planning and delivery.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, instructors, customers, community groups, special interest groups, advisory boards, other governmental agencies, school district staff and the general public.
  • Ability to direct the work of part-time and seasonal employees, review work, and bring performance concerns to supervisor's attention.
  • Knowledge of facilities and equipment used in managing a community center specializing in arts, and particularly the performing arts.
Applicants must also:
  • Be available to work occasional weekday evenings and weekends.
