Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Assist in planning, scheduling and coordinating all aspects of the City of Lincoln City Parks & Recreation youth and adult sports programs, including outdoor and indoor leagues. Provide excellent customer service by assisting via front desk support, gym monitoring, RECKids, or other youth program support and special events.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Inventory equipment prior to season and management of the equipment and supplies during the season. Ensure all equipment is maintained and returned after season is complete.

Assist in scheduling all games and practices and maintain results during the season. Coordinate facility availability with coaches/managers for rescheduled games and practices. Coordinate and schedule referees. Coordinate with the volunteer coaches for practice and game schedules. Referee youth sports and/or act as an on-site game day facilitator.

Responsible for all facility set up and breakdown for practices and games. Monitor facility conditions before and during season and close facilities as needed (if fields or gymnasium are deemed unplayable).

Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times. Represent the Lincoln City Parks & Recreation Department and its programs in a positive manner.

Maintain professional, respectful, productive and cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations and the general public. Communicate effectively with players, parents, coaches and referees. Cultivate and maintain a practice and game environment emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship and fun. Fairly resolve any conflicts or misconduct, and report such incidents.

Maintains cleanliness and appearance of Community Center, including gymnasium, fitness center, lobby, and other public areas.

Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas. Correct and/or report unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel. Lock and secure Community Center and fields upon departure.

Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS: High school education or equivalent supplemented by any relevant experience playing, coaching or officiating youth soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track & field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties. Good communication skills. Able to remain calm and display confidence when interacting with the players, coaches and the public. Ability to act as a leader and role model for youth. Access to the use of a car or means of transportation to travel to practice and game sites. Ability to attend all trainings and meetings as required, even if scheduled outside normal working or regular scheduled hours. Must be able to work with limited supervision.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES: Possession of current CPR/First Aid card, Mandatory Reporter/Child Abuse Reporting certification, Concussion certification.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Secondary education classes in sports or physical fitness related subjects, preferably including direct service to elementary & middle school youth.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, run or walk briskly back and forth up and down the field or court, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. This position requires mobility, manual dexterity and coordination while performing job duties. Must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to work varied shifts dependent on events and staffing needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervision is not a typical function assigned to this position.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager.

Lincoln City has a great opportunity with the Parks and Recreation Department at the Community Center as a Recreation Support staff member! This position plans, schedules, and manages all aspects of the City of Lincoln City youth and adult sports programs, including outdoor and indoor leagues. You will have the opportunity to provide excellent customer service by assisting with front desk support, prescreening station, gym monitoring, RECKids or other youth programs, and special events.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and work with children.
