Position Overview

The Quarry Groundsman will assist the foreperson with maintenance of the worksite to maintain a safe and compliant work environment. Responsible for safety sensitive labor duties as assigned by the foreman.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Keep work platforms clean and free of material.
  • Complete cleanup assignments mainly with hand-held tools; work safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment.
  • Operate light mobile equipment as trained and directed.
  • Perform cleanup with water avoiding unsafe conditions of water on motors and other electrical equipment and be able to work and move hoses safely while standing on slippery surfaces.
  • Perform quarry clean-up which may include mowing, weed eating, and groundskeeping of site.
  • Use tools, shovels, round hose, sledge hammer, skid steer.
  • Be aware of environmentally safety sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area.
  • Perform a pre-operational check, servicing of and operation of all assigned mobile equipment.
  • Operate skid steer to maintain quarry access point.
  • Keep foreman informed of any problems affecting assigned work.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Learn how to repair torn or damaged conveyor belts
  • Learn how to perform a competent work place examination to identify hazards before starting work.
  • Must be able to complete Miner training prior to working in facility Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Learn how to shovel safely and to use correct lifting techniques.
  • Must be able to complete required MSHA training within 90 days of employment
  • High school diploma or GED Work Requirements
  • Learn how to grease motors and gear boxes


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to frequently climb steps from 8”-24”, balance, occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch or squat when inspecting equipment.
  • Availability to work any 8 to 12 hour rotating shift, including weekends.
  • Occasionally push and pull when using hand tools.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; frequent lift of up to 30 lbs. when using certain hand tools.
  • Ability to wear hearing protection in areas of high sound levels.
  • Ability to walk or stand greater than one third of the time, or sit no greater than a third of the time.
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; frequently use hands and fingers to handle and feel.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work outdoors with a wide range of environmental exposure including being in the sun for long periods of time.
  • Ability to wear respirator in workplace conditions containing fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation
  • Capability to work in elevated and or confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ramps or stairs repeatedly and to climb vertical ladders occasionally.
