Overview:
This position will perform quality control tests for the specific product line in accordance with established local or national standards. This position will be required to conduct quality control tests within the precision standards established by ASTM and AASHTO.

The position will be required to report results upward and seek assistance to analyze data. Conducts in depth problem solving, detailed data and trend analysis, and troubleshooting associated with aggregate material performance. This position also assists in the implementation of best practices and techniques, in regards to product quality and quality initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities include the following:
  • Assist Material Performance personnel in other areas, when available.
  • Carries out regular updates to appropriate Quality Control and Quality Assurance test databases and spreadsheets and provide report summaries or analyses as needed.
  • Be a responsible advocate for on-the-job safety and the environment.
  • Able to learn the basic operations of aggregate plants.
  • Perform some service, repair, and calibration of laboratory and field testing equipment on a timely basis.
  • Work under general / minimal supervision; customarily works 70-80% of the time without direct supervision
  • Maintain a plant diary documenting weather conditions, material produced, samples taken, problems, corrective actions and general comments related to quality.
  • Assist Operations, Area, and Plant Managers as required.
  • Assist with the development, administration, implementation and documentation of material control plans and related material performance data, procedures and project-specific quality control.
  • Recommend and assist with plant changes to ensure conformance and consistency.
  • Carries out ongoing lab and field sampling. Testing to ensure that material produced and shipped meet state, project and customer specifications and expectations. Failure to do so will result in rejection of products that could produce significant negative impact to (1) Market Area financials and (2) Holcim image in the marketplace.
  • Observe and enforce all Company safety standards, advisories, and policies.
  • Technical material performance support and expertise provided for all plants in geographic area.
  • Provide “troubleshooting” guidance and advice, for various customers both internal and external.
Qualifications:
Required Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a materials quality control laboratory technician
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Additional Requirements:
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs over uneven ground for a distance of 300 feet
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors
  • Working at elevated heights
  • Excellent driving record and able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolding and stockpiles
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Tolerating noise, temperature and environmental variations
  • Basic math skills and knowledge of statistics
  • Mine Safety and Health Administration Certificate (MSHA) or the ability to obtain in 6 months through Holcim training
  • Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
