Purchasing agents are responsible for the sourcing of raw materials and services needed to support all operations. In addition to procuring current product, the purchasing agent will develop vendors and identify new and innovative sources for new product launches. This position offers the opportunity to work with a global supply chain. This is a high-visibility position that will involve coordination with inside sales, material handling, marketing/design, accounting, and operations.
Job Duties:
- Negotiate short and long term pricing arrangements with suppliers
- Analyze spend by commodity through competitive quotes
- Support Plants and Technical Departments with material related issues and requirements
- Monitor cost and track savings
- Verify supplier invoices for accuracy
- Manage day to day purchasing activities for specific raw materials
- Draft correspondence and issue monthly reports
- Supplier auditing, supplier relationship management, as well as performance management.
- Assist with special projects as required. These will be focused on major supply chain and company initiatives such as web-based procurement, lead time reduction, the path to zero waste, on time delivery, and quality.
- Key metrics will include On Time Delivery, Quality, Inventory Turns, and Cost Savings.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel with occasional trips overseas.
Job Requirements:
Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly, Wear PPE and following all safety directives. (Report any safety hazards to supervisor.)
Required-All candidates must be familiar with MS Office and MS Windows. As this job requires frequent collaboration with vendors, marketing, and operations, strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Preferred- B. S. degree in Business, previous purchasing or material planning experience.
