Smith & Carson, an Atlanta-based industry leader in performing complex litigation, jury, due diligence, and background investigations, is looking for a small number of talented public record research assistants to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia.
Research assistants will help division leads conduct investigations related to trial, including identifying and locating witnesses, researching genealogy, and identifying and procuring public records.
Ideal candidates may include (but are not limited to) those with experience and interest in online public record research, legal research, law, library sciences, genealogy, and history.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct genealogy research and develop extensive family and community trees
  • Assist with time-sensitive projects leading up to trial
  • Balance a varied workload of complex research, with short and shifting deadlines
  • Develop reports for clients that follow company formats and require minimal editing
  • Contact libraries, historical societies, courts, and other agencies to obtain records
  • Use online databases and other sources to identify and locate historical records, family members, and case witnesses, often with little information to start
  • Conduct online research of courts, agencies, and other sources to identify public records
  • Maintain detailed notes in case management system; capture backup documentation in an organized and client-worthy format
Requirements
Requirements:
  • Ability to quickly read, accurately analyze, and concisely summarize information into reports that require minimal editing
  • Effective time management of multiple projects; respond to changing priorities while maintaining professionalism
  • Self-motivated and self-monitoring
  • Commitment to work late nights and periodically weekends on time-sensitive projects
  • Strong Internet research and computer database skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Effectively communicate with people at all levels, including senior attorneys, other legal professionals, and court/agency personnel
  • Highly discreet and committed to protecting sensitive and confidential information
