Job Description

Introduction


The Division of Public Health (DPH) within the Department of Health Services (DHS), works with our local and tribal public health partners, and community groups statewide, on a wide variety of programs and services that protect the health of Wisconsin (WI) residents.

DPH is recruiting for a Public Health Educator - Community Liaison. This position will be located in Milwaukee, WI and will work full-time, Monday-Friday with daytime hours. This position may work remotely up to 3 days per week with the other 2 days in the state office building located at 819 N. 6th Street. This schedule may vary based on training or operational needs.

Position Summary


The Public Health Educator - Community Liaison is responsible for helping to advance health equity by supporting the efforts of community-based organizations across the state working to address a variety of locally-identified pandemic response and recovery needs.

In this position you are responsible for the following:

  • Develop, deliver, and conduct research in the development of strategies to address health promotion and risk reduction objectives.
  • Provide consistent and reliable support to the grantees of a competitive grant program, supported by a federal grant through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Mobilizing Communities for a Just Response grantees, and will develop reciprocal relationships with grantees, provide access to resources, be flexible and adapt to the needs of grantees, and elevate the work, successes, and barriers of grantees to DPH leadership.
  • Assist community partners with identifying appropriate health education materials, strategies, and methodologies that will support their success.

Salary Information


The starting salary is between $26.00 to $30.00 per hour (approximately $54,000 to $62,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former employees is based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as Public Health Educator and the pay schedule and range is 11-04.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process


Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience providing support or services to individuals from diverse and/or marginalized communities, including communities of color, the LGBTQ2S+ community, persons with diverse backgrounds, and people with disabilities.
  • Experience implementing strategies to address the social determinants of health, eliminate health disparities, or advance health equity.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience in understanding the social determinants and drivers of health.
  • Experience with determining quantitative and qualitative data and information needed to assess system performance or development of tools to collect that data.
  • Experience working in public health performing duties such as educating, training, leading or facilitating groups of diverse stakeholders.
