Job Description

The Hatcher Group seeks a super-sharp proposal writer and coordinator to support our business development efforts. The candidate will develop and submit proposals and respond to our partner agencies’ data calls for federal, nonprofit, and commercial clients. We need a smart, organized, obsessively conscientious team player with at least three years’ experience in responding to federal or commercial RFPs, preferably on behalf of a professional services firm. Working closely with Hatcher’s Senior Proposal and Capture Specialist and subject matter experts, the candidate will produce and manage the submission of capability statements, proposal content, case studies, resumes, pricing/staffing charts, and past performance summaries that align with pitch presentations and response strategies.

In addition to supporting the development of well-written and beautifully designed proposals, the ideal candidate will play a critical role in many different internal and external facing projects. This includes building a library of our core capability write-ups, brainstorming ways to organize and improve our lead generation process for business development leads, maintaining the integrity of our proposal development process, facilitating lessons learned sessions and after-action reports, and being readily available to support quick turnaround memos and ad hoc content requests.

The successful candidate will join a fun and hard-working team and work closely with Hatcher leadership across our five sectors, including Education, Environment, Equity & Opportunity, Public health, and Government. In this role, you will have an opportunity to learn from and engage with diverse and talented teams, including our accomplished designers, top-notch event planners, skilled video and radio producers, digital media experts, and seasoned strategic communication specialists. Successful collaboration with this wide range of professionals demands a perfectionist with brains, initiative, total reliability, great people skills, and a good sense of humor. The selected candidate will also be expected to contribute positively to a team environment rooted in the firm’s core values, upholding our community guidelines.

At Hatcher, we are proud to maintain a 'flexible first' work culture. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance to our Bethesda office for regular in-person collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support lessons learned processes and after-action reports by interviewing team members on successful or unsuccessful strategies and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Identify, gather, and tailor existing copy or write new copy to respond to the requirements of prospective partner agencies, memos, RFIs, and RFPs.
  • Support the development of win themes and differentiators during brainstorming sessions.
  • Maintain the accuracy of information across our proposal tracking tools through Monday.com and Box.
  • Review final proposals to ensure that all terms and conditions are met.
  • Update and track proposal language, case studies, resumes, and past performance.
  • Participate in proposal development process steps from a go/no-go decision through outlining, writing, and gathering content, and submission.
  • Collaborate with our design team to create proposal graphics, covers, charts, tables, and process diagrams.
  • Routinely update and maintain our proposal library matrix.
  • Generate, track, review, and follow-up on data calls for internal and subcontractor teammates.
  • Support positive team building and assist in business development activities and capture management.
  • Identify and communicate resource needs for proposals and capability statements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Flexibility to quickly adapt when “pop up' and other high priority needs that cause priorities to change.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of related proposal development experience.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to juggle multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills and expertise in copyediting, and the ability to understand and communicate concepts in a compelling persuasive manner.
  • Experience working under pressure with deadlines is critical.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work directly with internal clients and manage projects in collaboration with others.
