Job Description
Notes to applicants:
  • Here at Dimensional, we strive to be an inclusive workplace for all. Even if you do not match every qualification listed, if you are interested in who we are, what we do, and why we do it, we suggest and encourage you to apply.
  • Most roles at Dimensional will be part of our best-of-both hybrid working model. This includes working together in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and choosing to work in the office or remotely on Mondays and Fridays. This maximizes in person collaboration and interaction while simultaneously providing flexibility. This broad universal approach applies to most roles globally with a few exceptions that require more or less time in the office. Please discuss with your Recruiter to confirm the details for this specific role.
  • Resumes and portfolios (when applicable) are required as part of your application. When applying from a mobile device or tablet, you may not be able to attach a resume. If you cannot include an attachment at the time of your application, you will receive a follow up email asking you to attach your resume from a computer.

The Proofreader is responsible for checking documents produced by a range of departments across Dimensional for grammatical, typographical, compositional, and logical errors and other inconsistencies. Content may be internal or external communications related to research, investment strategy, marketing, sales positioning, organizational culture, history, and other topics. The Proofreader also works with staff members to craft biographies for client-facing positions. The Proofreader should see her/his review as the last eye as an “editor” and the first eye as a “reader”—will someone coming fresh to the material think it reads well and coherently conveys the message it aims to convey? Do the charts and exhibits support the message of the piece?
The successful candidate will also read proofs against copy to mark errors, verify conformity with design specifications, and ensure corrections to updated copy are incorporated. The Proofreader must demonstrate the ability to mark up documents using Markup in Microsoft Word and notes in Adobe Acrobat. Essential are excellent grammatical and spelling skills, the discipline and initiative to work on complex projects independently, and the ability to follow Dimensional branding and style guidelines. The Proofreader may occasionally copy edit material as the first Editorial review of such content, as well as take on small writing assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in daily Editorial meetings to further the department’s goals.
  • Collaborate across departments with a collegial, goal-focused, flexible mindset.
  • Proofread blog posts and other website content; newsletters and other internal and external communications; brochures and other print publications; data presentations; and other materials for accuracy, syntax, grammar, usage, style, punctuation, and clarity.
  • Take a holistic view of content evaluation, stepping back and determining whether a piece coheres in the manner intended.
  • Apply company editorial and branding guidelines as maintained by the Editorial and Creative Directors.
  • Occasionally copy edit with a mandate to take a more active hand in improving language.
  • Proofread material according to the Chicago Manual of Style and the in-house style guide.
Competencies Required:
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to maintain focus for long periods.
  • Proficient at working within the area of modern finance or a proven ability to quickly develop such a skill.
  • Ability to catch errors of visual organization such as inconsistent typography, spacing, graphics, and colors.
  • Familiarity with web publishing processes and ability to adapt to a new and evolving CMS.
  • Experience with Jira or other project-management systems, or ability to quickly develop this expertise.
  • Superior copyediting skills, including expert attention to spelling, syntax, grammar, usage, style, and punctuation.
  • Proven ability to encounter new material and quickly incorporate lessons learned into a long-term approach.
  • Superb mastery of English grammar.
  • Ability to apply the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, supplemented by house style.
  • Ability to prioritize independently based on workflow dependencies, competing business initiatives, and time constraints.

Educational Background: Bachelor’s in journalism, English, or related field.
Relevant Years of Experience: At least five years of experience copyediting or proofreading financial copy, or other technical or complex copy.
