Job Description
Job Summary


The Economic Security Project Officer will support the implementation of Economic Security product and program areas including, but not limited to food security, childcare, maternal and infant health, and workforce development. The Economic Security Project Officer will also contribute to research on new program development, policy best practices, performance measurement, and provide analytic support for EDA’s initiatives relating to economic security and community development.


$65,484 - $81,855


Note: The NJEDA currently offers a hybrid work schedule for up to 2 days of telecommute work from home. To participate, you will be required to have high speed home internet access and a managers approval. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJEDA employees to establish and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.


Core Duties and Responsibilities


  • Support varying projects and strategic initiatives to advance the goals of the Economic Security and Community Development team.
  • Must complete annual and semiannual self-assessment as required.
  • Support implementation of existing Economic Security team products, including aiding in application reviews, organizing CRM records, and providing support to potential applicants and existing grantees.
  • Perform duties to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism
  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer- focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external stakeholders
  • Research best practices and initiatives in other states, cities, and countries concerning issue areas at the intersection of economic development and economic security to support program design for Economic Security and Community Development team policies, programs, and products.
  • Work with the Director, Food Security and Executive Vice President to facilitate relationships across governmental agencies and EDA departments to support development of new Economic Security team initiatives and products.
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.
  • Assist the Director, Food Security to establish operational processes for new Economic Security products, working across EDA departments as necessary.


Skills And Abilities


  • NJEDA utilizes Microsoft as the core application platform and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Ability to communicate professionally with diverse stakeholders
  • Enthusiasm for equitable community development and readiness to dive into a diverse array of policy issues
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision
  • Ability to quickly research, analyze, and effectively synthesize information across a range of policy areas
  • Commitment to collaborative problem-solving


Qualifications


Education and Experience Requirements


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in government, nonprofit, research, or similar organizations
  • Bachelor’s in relevant field and/or equivalent experience


Advanced degree or industry specific certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as needed


Travel


  • As necessary to events, meetings, businesses, etc.


Certificates and Licenses Required


  • License: Staff are required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
