Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbuck's success by developing and executing the Company's programs for injury and incident prevention along with occupational safety risk identification. Protects Starbucks partners, customers, physical assets, and business operations and prevents or mitigates the impact of property and casualty losses and risks on the enterprise. Contributes directly to the business profit by reducing expenses. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Represents the function of enterprise-wide cross-functional business teams involved in all aspects of new program development, including highly complex and technical issues involving products, equipment, store development, and operations.
  • Provides information, training, and coaching to other risk partners to achieve partner, business, and customer results.
  • Leads efforts to develop and implement occupational safety solutions. Determines and recommends the appropriate mitigation methods that are consistent with industry best practices and regulatory requirements, and which will have a minimum of impact on company operations and financial results.
  • Manage/lead occupational safety projects and programs including defining the project plan, creating buy-in, stakeholder communication, and program implementation.
  • Provides consulting services on highly complex and technical occupational safety-related issues to management teams at all levels in areas of responsibility.
  • Proactively identifies and analyses risks affecting partner and customer injuries and incidents including, but not limited to incident prevention, ergonomics and human factors, hazardous materials, emergency response, noise, air quality, equipment, furniture, and consumer products.
  • Assists in the development of occupational safety compliance manuals, guidelines, related materials, and training programs for new hires and existing partners.
  • Develops and delivers effective communications and education plans that provide partners at all levels with appropriate awareness and knowledge of occupational safety methods and programs.
  • Provides support for other functions of Risk Management and other related departments, including litigation claims by in-house or outside counsel, facilities, partner resources, retail operations, and security team.
  • Participates in other occupational safety-related functions, including injury and incident prevention programs, and monitors the work environment.
  • Leads the injury and incident prevention audit process that identifies occupational safety opportunities to reduce on-site incidents. Oversees accident and near-miss investigations where needed.

Summary of Experience
  • Development and delivery of training programs and materials.
  • Occupational safety program development and implementation (3-5 years).
  • Working with state and/or provincial, and federal Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., OSHA) regulations (3-5 years).
  • Working with occupational safety programs in retail stores or industrial production facilities (3-5 years).
  • Compliance and/or incident response (3-5 years).
  • Conducting accident investigations (3-5 years).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build complex programs.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Data use and interpretation.
  • Skilled at understanding and interpreting government regulations and guidelines.
  • Willingness to obtain CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent Ergonomics training/certification.
  • Adept at providing consulting to the business.
  • Capability in solving complex problems and following through on solutions.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
