Job Description

The Project Manager, Health Equity Research and Innovation plays a key role in the health equity research and innovation portfolio of work at THI, working within the research and evaluation team. The project manager must have strong research and analytical skills, including: ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative research; proficiency in managing, analyzing and interpreting large data sets; exceptional writing and communication skills; ability to translate technical findings to a non-technical audience. At least a master’s degree with at least 5 years of related experience is required. Experience in health equity, health disparities, epidemiology, data visualization, and/or program evaluation is preferred.


Major Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Conduct qualitative research to support quantitative activities, such as key informant interviews and focus groups, including design of interview protocols, analysis and synthesis of findings
  • Supervise junior staff and interns to support literature reviews, data entry, and analysis, as necessary
  • Support THI projects and perform other duties as identified and appropriate, such as strategic planning, innovation efforts, and dashboard design
  • Lead writing and editing of reports, presentations, manuscripts, proposals, meeting materials, and other deliverables for multiple audiences, with oversight from the director of health equity research & innovation and chief research and evaluation officer
  • Produce relevant data visualizations and written summaries for a range of audiences including policymakers, community stakeholders, executive leaders, community leaders, community members, and others
  • Prepare and present project-related material at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences in collaboration with other investigators
  • Lead project planning and implementation of external facing dashboards and working with internal and external stakeholders to integrate requests and address concerns regarding the dashboard
  • Provide methodological support to the design, development, implementation, analysis, and reporting of projects for evaluation, community health needs assessments, community-based surveys, and qualitative research
  • Interface with clients, vendors, committees, and collaborators to execute project goals
  • Lead quantitative data analysis and manage large amounts of data from administrative and public sources, such as the American Community Survey (ACS), Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), National Vital Statistics System (NVSS), and others
  • Oversee research activities, such as scheduling and organizing focus groups, key informant interviews, community forums, listening sessions, stakeholder meetings, and advisory meetings

Position Requirements, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and initiative
  • Ability to be self-motivated and flexible, and to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines, work well under pressure with multiple vendors and partners across multiple projects
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation, and visualization skills, including demonstrated experience communicating complex data analysis to a variety of audiences
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills including experience with and ability to lead data analysis using statistical software–STATA experience preferred
  • A master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, health administration, social work (MPH, MHA, MHSA, MSW, MSSW) or closely related field, and at least 5 years of related experience; or a doctorate degree in public health or arelated field and 2 years of experience; preference given for experience in epidemiology
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with quantitative analysis of publicly-available data sets such as BRFSS, ACS, NHIS
  • A deep understanding of the public health ecosystem, including topics of health equity, health disparities, social determinants of health, and non-medical drivers of health
  • Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role, translating technical findings to a non-technical audience and responding to client feedback
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks within an overall project plan, and ability to complete projects under time constraints

Preferred:

  • Experience with GIS mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGis)
  • Experience with creating data dashboards (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis, including creation of interview protocols, and conducting and analyzing key informant interviews and/or focus groups (e.g., Atlas.ti, NVivo)
