Job Description
Reid Park Zoological Society is seeking a Project Manager. Bachelor’s degree in business, planning, project management or related field. Minimum six years managing complex projects and coordinating experts from different fields required.
The Society is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to create inspiring memories for all by connecting people and animals to ensure the protection of wild animals and wild places. We provide educational and fun experiences for visitors of all ages. We are the largest attended cultural attraction in Southern Arizona with approximately 500,000 visitors annually. The Project Manager will manage complex projects and coordinate experts from different fields for the duration of each project. Prepares forecasts of needed funds, assists in developing and implementing project budgets and monitors expenditures. May supervisor staff as needed.

Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Create simple, draft drawings of proposed projects.
  • Prepares forecasts of needed funds, assists in the development and implementation of budgets, monitors project budgets, authorizes expenditures and budget allocations, reviews budget documents and prepares reports and communications.
  • Ensures that all construction projects assigned meet, or exceed, all governmental and AZA standards.
  • Participate in the preparation of specifications for competitive bids for remodeling, and new construction. For major construction projects required to meet City of Tucson purchasing requirements, prepare requests for proposals according to City of Tucson process and adhering to City of Tucson approval process to select appropriate firms utilizing input from Zoo staff to develop scope of work and coordinating with appropriate City of Tucson personnel.
  • Design, coordinate, and implement new landscaping for planned and existing animal exhibits and public areas.
  • Collaborates with staff, develop project goals and objectives, evaluates project success and regulatory compliance, and makes presentations.
  • Makes timely decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgement, supports and explains reasoning for decisions, and includes appropriate people in decision making.
  • Works within approved budgets, conserves zoo resources, develops and implements cost savings measures, and contributes to revenue development.
  • Manages and directs complex projects by assigning work, forecasting timelines and project parameters, reviewing and approving plans and documents, devising solutions to problems, deploying resources, ensuring projects are completed effectively and efficiently within budget timelines, studying and approving agreements, disbursing payments, conducting and attending meetings with associated parties.
Facilities and Grounds Projects
  • In coordination with Facilities Manager, advise and assist with developing scope of work, requirements with regards to procurement, permits, etc.
  • Provide technical advice to Maintenance, Grounds and Animal Care departments in achieving solutions for project related issues as needed.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Must be able to willing to undertake a background check & have acceptable results.
  • Unrestricted driving license
  • Must exhibit excellent organizational skills.
  • Minimum of 6 years managing complex projects and coordinating experts from different fields.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, influencing & presentation skills and ability to build relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to build and maintain project schedules and budgets, high degree of proficiency with software tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, planning, project management, or related field preferred.
  • Must be able to work in routine exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Ability to deliver clear and concise written and verbal messages in a structured manner, manage differing points of view, tailor communications/style to audience, and craft presentations with quality expected for senior management and/or broad public distribution.
  • Ability to identify and structure problems, prioritize issues and solution development, plan and conduct work, process information, and place information in a relevant context or framework.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time performing computer work.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Working knowledge of project management software.
  • Experience in public budgets and bid processes required with preference for familiarity with City of Tucson procurement procedures.
  • Ability to develop & sustain effective working relationships.
  • Experience as lead role in managing complex projects
THE HIRING RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS $70,000 - $82,000 ANNUALLY.
