As a Project Lead Engineer, you will be the design authority for engineering projects in Marine Systems, Process Automation Marine & Ports (PAMA) in Houston, Texas, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service.
In this role, you will be the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments classified as low engineering complexity. Ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are efficiently and cost effectively executed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.

Your responsibilities
  • Shares best practice across different projects and disciplines
  • Customer and Sales: Interacts with customers, contractors, suppliers
  • Assists in performing engineering risk analysis before submitting proposal
  • Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements
  • Leads single or multi discipline engineering teams of less than 10 resources
  • Identifies opportunities for repeating and new businesses
  • Processes and tools: Utilizes standard processes, tools, and techniques
  • Acts as a technical lead, approves design deliverables
  • Risk and opportunity management: Evaluates risks and opportunities, strategizes mitigation of one’s engineering projects/programs
  • Actively participates project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations
  • Planning and control: Creates work plans and cost estimates for the project in consultation with respective Project Managers and ensures quality deliverables on time and at targeted cost
  • Finalizes ‘Fail Safe Philosophy’ and other key concepts as part of Kick Off and Design Freeze Meetings
  • Oversees the creation of subcontracts and manages the subcontractors jointly with other involved disciplines, including supply chain management
  • Authorization: May act as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completes engineering assignments for that discipline
  • Coaches project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including modelling, proto typing and calculations
  • Assists in creating proposals for projects through coordination of proposal documents and engineering estimates
  • Supports the Project Manager in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting actions
  • Contract management: Reviews all project documents for conformity, safety and quality assurance
  • Executes assignments using established solutions
  • People Leadership and development: Leads, supervises and coordinates teams in all engineering disciplines (both in house and outsourced) on low complexity projects
  • Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Collaborates and networks with engineering colleagues within ABB
  • Provides technical support to commissioning and start up activities
  • Negotiates claims and engineering changes
  • Supports Project Manager/Contract Manager in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.)
  • Technical contribution Engineering development: As a technical lead for all engineering disciplines, evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform task or sequence of tasks, for conventional projects with few complex features
  • Attends project meetings and presents all technical aspects of project assignments
  • Construction support: Collaborates on project installation, commissioning and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering errors
Your background
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 5 years experience in Power Electronics and Drives, Control Engineering or related field
  • Good understanding of electrical circuit modeling, control theory and simulation tools example MATLAB/ Simulink/ ANSIS
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
