The Role
Mission
As Project Engineer II your mission is to be an integral player in developing new products that conform to all aspects of product objectives including performance and return on investment. Utilize your Engineering skills to develop products with powerful customer impact. Use your creative thinking and ambition to drive solutions for our customers with commitment, innovation, and interaction with a focus on quality, delivery, and cost.
Roles And Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Lead project teams on collaboration activities for your respective product development initiatives.
  • Guide and lead part designers who will assist you in attaining project goals.
New Product Development
  • Be the driving force behind the Project Team Meetings.
  • Be solely responsible for the content related to the documentation of the Design Preview, Functional Prototype, Production Prototype, and Qualification Gate phases in the Design Review and Qualification.
  • Initiate and support the development of all product documentation that can include:
  • Instruction Books (AIB) and Spare Parts Books (ASL) per Atlas Copco standards.
  • Assembly of prototypes for your products in development as necessary.
  • Identify ALL critical assembly operations and provide necessary assembly torquing information on system commodity drawings to relay important assembly details to production.
  • Actively immerse yourself into calculating the cost of the product you are developing at least monthly.
  • Sprint efficiency
  • Create and maintain detailed 2D component drawings with all required information using proper Atlas Copco dimensioning techniques, welding symbology, material callouts, and part marking.
  • Follow to the letter the Concept to Product (C to P) gated new product development process.
  • Create and maintain product bills of material as they relate to your product/project.
  • Perform Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to ensure component integrity and safety for the product as well as users.
  • Create and maintain 3D master assembly models of your products using Atlas Copco drawing methods and standards using Inventor & Autodesk Vault drawing/PDM platforms.
  • Service requirements (develop/release of consumable service packs).
  • Follow and monitor the budget of your project and raise awareness of deviations if they occur.
  • Analyze your products for potential misuse.
  • Dimension drawings (AHB) for ALL product variants.
  • Project Timing/Project Risk Assessment
  • Perform numerical calculations that support the design integrity of your products.
  • Development and release of wiring schematics where required.
  • Documentation of product data (AML).
  • Follow your project thru to the end as an active member of the TCM and any field warranty issues that could arise from your projects.
  • Strive for high reuse of existing components in new products to reduce cost, reduce risk and improve time to market.
  • Strive to maintain a First Time Right (FTR) metric of greater than 90%
  • Initiate and maintain project-related information for NPD projects. This includes maintaining monthly the following:
  • Develop in full any product options that relate to your product/project.
  • Create and maintain engineering-related instructions for electrical Panels, system test reports, and product release checklists.
  • Assist with the inputs required for digital tools such as FEA analysis and CFD analysis as required.
  • Independently and with little supervision, manage your projects from start to finish with a focus on delivering the project completely on time and in full (OTIF) and meeting all relevant project KPIs.
  • Creation of Product Configuration/Options Matrix (PCT) files.
  • Assist your manager with inputs related to PCM presentations regarding your project(s).
  • Project Budget/Current PK/PCM Actions and Decisions/Result Plan
Change Management
  • As required, initiate Design Notifications (DN) per your project requirements.
  • Prepare/Check drawings and prepare DNs according to the NPD DN process.
Cross-Functional Activity
  • Provide technical expertise for your product group in the Marketing and Technical Service areas.
  • Interact with international colleagues in collaboration projects.
  • Have continual interaction with Purchasing to monitor the cost status of product development.

What we expect of you?
Qualifications:
Supervisory Responsibility - None
Experience:
  • Prior experience in rotating machinery development is a plus.
  • 7-15 years of experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing or R & D design center and demonstration of successful project KPIs
  • Prior experience working with medical equipment is a definite plus.
  • Experience in design for a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience leading project teams for the development of new products is required.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or product design is required. A master’s degree in engineering is a plus.
Skills:
  • Should have a strong command of 2D drawing detailing such as dimensioning/tolerance stack-ups/geometric tolerancing and symbology and welding symbols,
  • Software skills e.g. MS Office (including MS Project), BPCS (AS/400)
  • Should possess excellent 3D modelling skills.
  • Committed to accuracy and detail
  • Familiarity with electrical or compressed air systems is preferred.
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be customer-oriented
  • Good command of English is required. Other languages are a plus.
