BSD MED - Center for Personalized Therapeutics - Research


About The Department


The Center for Personalized Therapeutics researches pharmacogenomics on two levels: discovery and implementation. Research Coordinators work on both types of projects which provide a system for clinicians to use patients' genetic information when making medication decisions.


Job Summary


The Programmer will design and implement secure systems to acquire, store, and process biomedical datasets for sensitive human subjects that are participating in clinical trials related to personalized medicine research. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of database and internet enabled technologies and experience in database design, data entry and reporting application development.


Responsibilities


  • Performs other related work as needed.
  • Acquire, store, and process biomedical datasets, to be used on personalized medicine research.
  • Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web developers and responds to requests from users.
  • Design and implement secure systems for sensitive human subjects that are participating in clinical studies.
  • Supports and maintains existing applications. Works with web developers and responds to requests from users.
  • Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs. Receives a moderate/high level of guidance to design applications to meet University and business requirements.
  • Investigates and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

    Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

    Education
    • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
    Experience
    • Experience using markup languages and formats such as HTML/CSS, JSON, and XML.
    • Experience on biomedical research.
    • Experience using programming languages such as C#, Java, Perl, PHP, and JavaScript.
    • Understanding of biomedical terminologies.
    • Experience using some of the following (or equivalent) technologies: ASP.Net/.NET Core, MVC and service-oriented design
    • Experience writing unit tests and using CI/CD pipelines on platforms like GitLab.
    • Experience designing web applications using the MVC and service-oriented design patterns.
    C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Angular or similar, SQL Server, IIS web server, RESTful APIs, Unit testing, Git/SVN.
    Preferred Competencies
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Confidentiality related to sensitive University matters such as, strategic initiatives, trade secrets, quiet periods, and scientific discoveries yet to be put in the public domain.
    • Effective Communication skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet critical project milestones and deadlines.
    Working Conditions
    • Ability to work on a flexible schedule which will include occasional late night and/or weekend hours.
