The City of Norfolk is seeking a Program Coordinator-Prevention Services, Special Projects to join the Norfolk Community Services Board. This position will work with schools and other community agencies throughout the City of Norfolk to provide education, information
and/or programming on a variety of topics to promote healthy lifestyles.

The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.

Today, the CSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. Norfolk CSB seeks team members interested in providing skilled services in a public service environment. We are also seeking persons to join our team that are dedicated to supporting a positive work and treatment environment. Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Delivers presentations on topics related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and/or substance abuse to a variety of audiences including citizens, clients and other professionals in the field.
  • Keeps documentation of assessments, pre and post tests, training sessions, consultations, NCSB required documentation (i.e. PBPS and any other information as required or requested.
  • Provides facilitation services for group activities within the NCSB and in the community as assigned.
  • Provides staff support when requested within community and/or school substance use and violence prevention advocacy groups in their efforts to impact quality of life within the community.
  • Collaborates with CSB Public Relations department to raise awareness of CSB programs/services and mission throughout the community.
  • Provides information and appropriate referrals to other substance use, intellectual disabilities and mental health treatment services and community resources as appropriate.
  • Submits service hours, contacts, and client data on a weekly and monthly basis. Enters data in ETO system as required by DBHDS.
  • Provides prevention education for youth and adult citizens around mental health, intellectual disabilities, ATOD, violence and other topics as requested.
  • Submits a monthly narrative report on the population served and services accessed, ie., prevention education short term group activities and information dissemination. Develops written reports as directed regarding service delivery (ie NPS mid-year/annual reports etc).
  • Facilitates evidence based mental health trainings and groups for various target populations that relate directly or indirectly to substance use and prevention/education topics.
  • Provides consultation and education to outside agency staff, parents, and other Norfolk residents at their request, on adolescent issues related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and/or substance abuse issues.
  • Serves as a liaison to the other services within the CSB, schools, agencies and community.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Prevention and Youth Services Program Supervisor and/or Program Coordinator.

Education/Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Human Services or related field; professional level of knowledge equivalent to Bachelor's degree-level of study.

Two years' experience.

Additional Preferred Experience:
Specialized knowledge and experience in facilitating trainings and small/large groups.
