Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Missouri Humanities Program Coordinator (PC) is a self-starter and professional team contributor who is responsible to work in partnership with the Executive Director to carry out the mission and strategic advancement of Missouri Humanities (MH). Successful candidates will possess the ability to convert vision into words and action and be an advancer of tasks and projects. The PC will be involved in program management that requires an acute attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and clear and concise written and verbal communication. Under the supervision of the Program Director, in the first year, the PC will develop and manage the Missouri Speakers Bureau, manage the Crossroads exhibition, and update and maintain MH’s email and event database. All Missouri Humanities team members must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

Salary Range: $37,000–$47,000

FLSA Status:Exempt, Full-time

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and manage the Missouri Speakers Bureau (MSB)

oManage the daily functioning of the program, including communicating with Speakers and other partners.

oConduct outreach to communities and organizations, especially those in rural areas, including proactive communications, presentations, and some in-state travel.

oWork closely with a roster of 50+ storytellers, journalists, historians, philosophers, and other humanities experts to reach 110 counties of Missouri.

oCoach speakers on topics such as public speaking, effective outreach, and presentation design as needed.

oBuild partnerships with key organizations such as the State Historical Society of Missouri, libraries, museums, and cultural institutions.

oLead statewide search for new speakers every two years, including managing the application and review process.

oCreate and update program materials, including brochures, website content, social media posts, and email communications in collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator.

oCollaborate with Director of Programs to develop and implement strategies to reach new audiences, partners, and speakers.

oMaintain and track program records, budget, and impact.

oCollaborate with Development Director to identify potential funding sources and ensure timely and accurate reporting of program data to funders.

oManage evaluation efforts and implement responsive changes to the program as necessary.

2. Manage the Museum on Mainstreet “Crossroads” exhibition as it tours Missouri September 2023- June 2024.

oDesign and lead the planning of the kickoff event

oCoordinate shipping and setting up the exhibit

oCoordinate trainings for host sites

oCoordinate interactions with Crossroads Scholar

3. Work with the Director of Development and Marketing Coordinator to maintain the CRM, databases, and subscription tools.

4. Assist and manage other humanities programs as assigned

oDeveloping partnership and outreach opportunities to organizations and communities that broaden the pool of partners and participants for programs as assigned from broad and diverse constituencies.

oMaintaining evaluation and other data and reporting on all assigned programs each year

oDevelop and manage short- and long-term plans and budgets for assigned programs and monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate performance.

oComplete projects and special assignments by establishing objectives, determining priorities, managing time wisely, gaining the cooperation of others, problem-solving, and adjusting as needed to meet goals. Projects will span across business functions including direct service, development, volunteers, community outreach, etc.


5. Perform all additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director

This is a full-time position based in the Kansas City metropolitan area, with some flexibility available for occasional remote work.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Demonstrated experience in action-oriented partnership cultivation, development, and management

• Experience with Constant Contact, DonorPerfect, Excel, Google, and program management software

• Knowledge of and experience working with small museums, especially exhibitions and public programs

• Ability to cultivate positive and productive relationships and partnerships with a wide range of cultures, people, and organizations

• Comfortable in a high-performing, fast-paced and quickly growing organization; demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances

• Dedicated to the details and masterful at multi-tasking. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines

• Proven ability to use outstanding interpersonal, political navigation, and communication skills to build strong relationships and negotiate challenging situations

• Proven history of self-directed work to improve processes and procedures and excellent

• Possess executive maturity, sound judgment, and a professional appearance

• Integrity, honesty, and high ethical standards

• Skilled in examining and re-engineering program operations and procedures

• Ability to anticipate needs and align resources

QUALIFICATIONS

The Program Coordinator (PC) will be a collaborative leader with at least 2 years of broad public program management experience. Talented candidates will also bring experience in the nonprofit sector and a passion for the humanities. Bachelor’s degree or related experience is preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS

• Work schedule is typically M-F from 9 AM-5 PM. This is a full-time position based at 3218 Gladstone Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64123 with some flexibility available for occasional remote work.

• This position will be required to travel statewide as well as work some evenings and weekends

• Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer

• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
