Our exciting and fast-paced Clinical Laboratory Operations Support organization is looking for a dedicated and passionate Engineer who can learn, support and contribute to our innovative and industry-leading laboratory automation and production line.


As an integral department with hands-on responsibility to deliver Invitae’s mission, our Production Engineering Support team members have the opportunity to impact patient lives in meaningful and innovative ways, while also gaining valuable skills to advance their career.


The Exciting Things You’ll Do


Operations


  • Communicate status of production line and support efforts to Shift Supervisor, Team Lead and Production Lab staff
  • Aid in troubleshooting of down systems when an immediate resolution is not available and Independently conduct troubleshooting investigations of down systems when an immediate resolution is not available.
  • Identify and prioritize repair complexities independently, and arrange to resolve based on priority
  • Mentoring more Junior Engineers
  • Qualify new laboratory equipment per SOP
  • Conduct routine and more complex maintenance of production line hardware
  • Follow all SOPs to provide first tier support and error resolution for all hardware and software on our highly-automated laboratory production line in a timely manner and with necessary degree of quality independently.
  • Other related duties as identified or assigned
  • Complete training and competency assessments in the required timeframe
  • Document all repairs, maintenance activities and equipment qualifications


The Skills You’ll Share With The Team


  • High Level support for multiple stakeholders
  • Well-versed in industry standard laboratory equipment hardware and software used in high throughput molecular biology laboratories, including but not limited to custom integrated work cells, liquid handling (Hamilton STAR/STARlet/Vantage, Agilent Bravo, Dynamic Devices Lynx, Tecan), scheduling software (Overlord, GBG, Vworks, Method Manger), and ancillary equipment (centrifuges, cold storage, etc.)
  • Technical writing capability and solid documentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Troubleshooting skills, quality mindset, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in an ISO 13485/15189, GMP, GLP and or CAP/CLIA environment preferred
  • Independently troubleshooting simple to complex issues in the lab


Experience


  • Biotechnology laboratory automation experience a plus
  • Familiarity with NGS technologies a preferred
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Life Sciences preferred

Location: San Francisco, CA onsite


Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM Pacific Time


This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. California Pay Range


$91,900—$114,800 USD
