TITLE: PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR (2nd Shift)
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: PRODUCTION MANAGER/OPERATIONS MANAGER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Supervises all plant production activities on a specific shift. Responsible for meeting production schedules and standards, producing product in accordance with applicable customer requirements, and maintaining optimum production at the least possible cost while adhering to all Amcor Rigid Packaging USA Inc. safety requirements. Supervises shift maintenance personnel and regular maintenance staff in the absence of the Plant Maintenance Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in the review of labor and manufacturing costs as they relate to production. Analyzes, pursues, and recommends methods for reducing these costs.
  • Performs other related duties as request by the Production Manager, Operations Manager, and/or Plant Manager.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving employee hours worked using the Kronos timekeeping system
  • Maintains standards of quality to meet customer and internal specifications. Strives for continuous improvement in quality performance through proper training, good communication, effective leadership/supervision, and follow-up with all members of the shift.
  • Effectively handles employee complaints, suggestions, questions, and conflicts in accordance with the guidelines established in the Employee Handbook and in accordance with company policies/procedures. Maintains employee morale and discipline through fairness and impartiality.
  • Effectively manages the work schedule within the department to prevent idle time and provides for the optimal use of personnel, machinery, and material. This includes the proper use of any established work standards and incentive plans.
  • Responsible for reporting the following information at the end of each shift:(a). Production achieved by department / machine / product (b) Runtime / downtime by department / machine (c) Maintenance, installation and/or test work performed (d) Deviations from acceptable quality standards and product disposition (e) Material receipts and shipments (f) Material problems, outages, and action taken (g) Personnel problems, absenteeism, time worked
  • Coordinates the implementation of any approved material or method changes. Responsible for communicating these changes to production personnel and follows-up to insure understanding and proper implementation.
  • Maintains safe working conditions throughout the plant by taking corrective action on unsafe conditions or acts. May serve as a member of the Plant Safety Committee. Implements all approved safety recommendations, and insures compliance with established safety standards, including lockout/tagout, hearing conservation, and other programs required by law and/or management.
  • Keeps current on technical developments and changes in order to appraise or make recommendations to management and supervisors and to instruct and train employees.
  • Directs the manufacturing and material handling activities on a given shift. Ensures employees are performing tasks in accordance with safety policies. Trains and supervises hourly employees in these activities; administers plant rules and procedures; recommends employees and candidates for hire, promotion, demotion, transfer, disciplinary action and/or termination.
  • Conducts safety meetings with shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required:
Minimum of two years of college, prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or acceptable combination of experience and education.
Experience Required:
Minimum of three years experience in a supervisory position, preferably in plastics manufacturing.
Must be able to communicate quickly and effectively with all members of the shift as well with management, customers and vendors.
Must be capable of managing and training all members of the shift on an on-going basis.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES: Supervises all plant production employees on a specific shift
AUTHORIZATION
  • Authority to contact any staff or management team member with concerns, questions or suggestions pertaining to their job or work environment.
  • Approve expenditures up to pre-determined amount identified by corporate guidelines without prior approval of Department Manager.
  • Ability to shut down any machine if it poses an imminent danger to employee’s health and/or safety.
  • Ability to shut down any machine because of a quality problem so suspect material can be contained.
  • Ability to shut down any if it is down three items in one hour for the same mechanical problem.
  • Recommend hiring, termination and promotions of subordinates.
  • Initiate Corrective Actions for violations of Company policies.
