Production Planner
Position Overview
Shaw Industries is looking for a Production Planner to interact directly with departmental managers and the plant manager in the accomplishment of support, scheduling, and through-put improvement objectives in the manufacturing process. They are responsible for all necessary forecasting, planning, assigning, reporting, and follow up for all departmental functions. Finally, they will comply with all safety, quality, production, waste, absenteeism, turnover, labor cost, manning, and housekeeping standards necessary to meet the departmental requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Create YMOs based on Purchase Orders sent to the Plant from Divisional Planning for both Extrusion, Twisting and Heatset.
  • Estimate process rates and adjust buggy schedules as needed to prevent storage areas to not exceed capacity
  • Works overtime as required
  • Manage cart count balance between processes to ensure imbalances are not created
  • Generate information based on inventory, shipments, expected production and actual production as needed.
  • Begin and End lots in different departments.
  • Supervises Scheduler daily work activities.
  • Work with IT and planning teams to help develop automated solutions and maintain current systems for shop floor production, scheduling and planning.
  • Work on call as required (1-2 weekends per month)
  • Balance load on equipment based on priorities, inventory, demand and automation capability.
  • Work collaboratively with each department to meet customer needs.
  • Estimate start time in Twist to develop automation carts are delivered when needed
  • Work with Scheduler to ensure concentrate inventories are at needed levels and color concentrate is ordered as needed. Ensure color concentrate is allocated among multiple in process and upcoming lots in Extrusion.
  • Communicates with supervisors and department managers production planning changes.
  • Balances Extrusion positions to Twisting quadrants to prevent late deliveries or overscheduling based on mass balance among processes and inventory.
  • Maintain manual inventory count of in process production carts among departments where automated production cart information is not available.
  • Oversee efforts to eliminate or reduce amount of left-over inventory in each department.
  • Collaborate with automation team to make sure the system is performing effectively.
    • Estimate start time in Twist to develop automation carts are delivered when needed
    • Manage cart count balance between processes to ensure imbalances are not created
    • Estimate process rates and adjust buggy schedules as needed to prevent storage areas to not exceed capacity
    • Balances Extrusion positions to Twisting quadrants to prevent late deliveries or overscheduling based on mass balance among processes and inventory.
  • Integrates planned and unplanned equipment downtime into schedule with minimize impact to schedule.
  • Work with Divisional Planning on prioritization of orders to meet customer needs.
  • Communicate with Shipping any special requirements or expediting of material.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED required, (2 or 4 year degree preferred)
  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as: Excel, PowerPoint, and ERP Production/Inventory management systems required
  • At least 1 year of Scheduling/ Production Planning/Inventory Management experience required
  • Must be organized and have great communication skills
