Job description
The Production Manager oversees the Manufacturing Facilities; ensures the company’s ability to produce, prepare, package and deliver the highest quality cannabis products; and increases operational effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance standards. The Production Manager will be responsible for nurturing a highly focused, diligent, lean operational culture, and fostering an environment of growth, flexibility and empowerment.
This role answers to the Director of Operations. The Production Manager oversees Processing and Packaging, Inventory, and Fulfillment departments. They work closely with the Director of Sales and the Facilities Manager.
This seasoned professional will champion the company’s supply chain planning, including:
- Production Planning & Scheduling
- Operations Management Optimization
- Inventory Management, Distribution, Compliance,
- Product Development & Cost Accounting
Our company is fast-paced and expanding rapidly. Therefore, the ability to organize, prioritize and delegate tasks adroitly is a key requirement. The Production Manager will need to be able to lead teams, plan, organize and anticipate requirements well in advance to ensure smooth business operations.
Operations Management Optimization
- Drive efficiency improvement initiatives in processing, packaging, and warehousing
- Effectively manage and streamline all aspects of the supply chain and each process step carried out in operations
- Identify, lead, and develop talent to maximize individual, team, and organizational effectiveness to meet company goals
- Implement best practices, drive continuous improvement and ensure SOPs are followed in daily production processes
- Track and review processing logs to ensure production accuracy at all levels
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Monitor inventory and adjust production scheduling accordingly
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly production schedules/forecasts
- Monitor operational workflow and adjust plans accordingly
- Communicate inbound, outbound delays, or any shortages, to all stakeholders
- Make recommendations for productivity and improvement methods
- Prepare production reports for Director of Operations, Finance
- Review sales forecasts, customer demands, and schedule production based on inventory levels, production lead times and capacity
- Regularly review production schedule and modify to accommodate necessary changes and adherence to production needs
- Schedule and direct interdepartmental production meetings
Inventory Management , Distribution, & Compliance
- Ensure Just-In-Time inventory management is maintained as it pertains to the production of finished goods, raw materials and other inventory items as required
- Oversees Inventory compliance under Metrc and Dutchie
- Maintain a high degree of organization, tracking batches as they move through the processing queue, and providing the required documentation to remain in compliance with both state and local regulations.
- Oversee and manage the tracking of all inventory in seed to sale software system and liaise with all departments to maintain control of all inventory ( in-process products and final products) in the facility
- Oversee the utilization of proper inventory controls and inventory management
- Develop and enforce proper product and work-in-process tracking, movement, product security and compliance
Product Development & Cost Accounting
- Monitor all COGS, provide input on product costing and pricing to the Sales team
- Participate in innovation programs and in new product development and implementation
Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge & Abilities):
- Ideal candidate would also have experience in managing a highly regulated and production-based facility
- Self-starter and self-motivator
- Willing to work on a “hands on” basis and contribute positively in a growing company environment
- Ability to manage time efficiently and effectively
- Excellent and confident communicator
- All applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
- High level of proficiency in METRC
- Deep understanding of CCC compliance and regulatory requirements
- Preferably knowledgeable in Dutchie
- Solid software skills
- OSHA 30 Preferred
- Minimum 3 years production and/or operations management experience with progressively more responsibility
- Experienced leader passionate about staff development
- Persistent in driving high standards and professionalism
- High level observation skills/ attention to detail
Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, grasp, bend, stoop, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions
- This position is on-site in our Whately facility. Work is performed in an indoor production facility, with industrial lighting and occasional industrial noise. Plant material and particulates are present on surfaces and in the air, extraction fumes may also be present.
- Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 60 pounds (100 pounds with assistance) AND must be able to do so with extreme care and caution when working with plants and product
