Job Description
Upwork ($UPWK) is the world's work marketplace. We serve everyone from one-person startups to large, Fortune 100 enterprises with a powerful, trust-driven platform that enables companies and talent to work together in new ways that unlock their potential.

Last year, more than $3.8 billion of work was done through Upwork by skilled professionals who are gaining more control by finding work they are passionate about and innovating their careers.

The Trust & Safety team's mission is to be the world's most trusted work marketplace. Our Marketplace Quality team supports this mission through the implementation of policies and products that ensure we maintain a credible and safe work marketplace.

As a Marketplace Quality Product Manager, you'll build products and introduce experiences designed to shape customer behavior, reduce circumvention and enforce rules for platform content.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our Scam Prevention team to identify opportunities to collaborate on product solutions that can overlap to reduce both scam and circumvention activity.
  • Partner with our Customer Support and Policy teams to better understand the circumstances under which we find users circumventing, and assess our current policy and product solutions for gaps.
  • Partner with our Research and Experience Design teams to understand the motivations behind circumvention as part of developing educational tools and programs aimed at changing this behavior.
  • Define metrics for ensuring accountability and measurable results as part of improving the health of the marketplace.
  • Develop a strategic, multi-layered product roadmap for 2023 and beyond aimed at eliminating circumvention and improving trust in the marketplace.

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • Effective at delivering sound product solutions in both quantitative areas, and areas with no data and limited known information.
  • Prior experience as a product manager in an online marketplace.
  • Comfortable adapting to evolving goals and priorities.
  • Experience designing sound risk management experiences that stop bad actors with minimal impact to healthy growth.
  • At least 2 years prior experience as a product manager within a trust & safety, fraud, or risk management team.
  • Experience working with analysts & machine learning experts to develop both rules-based detection and machine learning models.
  • Experience developing behavior changing, in-product education.
  • Curiosity and an eye for anomaly detection and spotting trends.
  • Creativity and a desire to try new things to learn.
  • Experience working with marketplace policy managers in developing enforcement strategies that change user behavior.
