TitleProduce Department ManagerPay GradeNon-ExemptMajor DepartmentProduceMinor Department ProduceReports toGeneral ManagerJob Summary: The Produce Team Leader is responsible for the exceptional execution of guest service by the entire department. S/he are responsible for managing the department inventory, margin, labor budgets, pricing integrity, and merchandising standards.
S/he will ensure all Team Members receive proper training and supervision. S/he Team Leader will ensure the highest level of execution in regards to ordering, receiving, unloading, storage, rotation, merchandising and building of displays. The Produce DM is also responsible for regular communication with their General Manager, Grocery Buyer and Audit/Lead in order to assure proper understanding of the department function in terms of product and people. Acts as a role model and exemplifies Pete’s Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate the knowledge and training of how to effectively run the day to day operations of a grocery store; as well as possess the skills to delegate responsibilities, implement while still adhering to the rules of the store and company.Possess the knowledge and training of how to effectively handle and stock produce products.Ensures that the proper rotation and quality of product is kept at all times while understanding, following, and implementing the company’s core values.Build a positive work environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect and exceptional morale and lead by example.Model and provide exceptional guest service.Responsible for training, mentoring, and coaching employees to succeed.Delegate daily tasks to department employees.Regulate department shrink.Maintain a clean and sanitized work station.Partner with the department buyer to establish department pricing and signage.Meet and/or exceed departmental margins.Effectively resolve guest issues.Maintain inventory and order for the department.Model and ensure Team Member compliance of all relevant store and department specific policies and standards.Other duties as assigned.Education and CertificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalency with at least 3-4 years of relevant experience.Demonstrate knowledge of department functions.Proficient computer and math skills.Possesses a current Food Handler Certificate or able to obtain upon employment.Other Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMust be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.Work Environment/ Physical DemandsMust have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.Ability to enter the coolers and freezers thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time.Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing.Must have reliable source of transportation.The ability to be reached during/after work hours.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
