Prana Gourmet Foods is a Somerset NJ based fast growing speciality grocery company. It specializes in Organic rice, beans and plant based ready to eat meals. it customers include National Supermarkets including - Whole Foods, Shoprite, Kroger, Aldi

Buyer supports in procurement and supply chain management of Food programs from both domestic and international vendors within each designated market.

Buyer will investigate international and domestic sourcing options by market and coordinate sustainable products that meet Prana's standards for price, quality and food safety. Support overall sales and merchandising strategies and processes for the region

Responsibilities Include

• Monitor domestics and international commodity markets
• Own financial and cost management metrics
• Develop and lead strategic sourcing activities
• Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international vendors

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Will have a strong potential for development and growth
• 5+ years sourcing food, grocery ingredients.
• Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising and Consumer Package Foods

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Initiates, manages and ensures timely completion of category reviews.
• Procure assigned product lines which may include speciality grocery and international food products.
• Tracks and measures sales and profitability of assigned lines and performs analysis to determine impact on overall category profitability.
• Maintains proper inventory levels to ensure high service levels and minimal out-of-stocks.
• Uses various communication practices to keep key internal teams informed of promotions, cost advantages, product availability, market trends and material changes.
• Establishes strategic relations with key suppliers that lead to new consumer and industry insights.
• Negotiate contracts and term in order to gain maximum advantage for costs and opportunities.
• Cultivates effective relationships with vendors and brokers and leads vendor negotiations.
• Investigates alternative distribution and cost options to achieve further savings.
• Continuously negotiates with new/existing suppliers to achieve an aggressive difference in pricing versus the market competition as well as sourcing for potential projects/products.
• Maximizes forward buy opportunities and overall gross profits on assigned line items.
• Monitors integrity of assigned item pricing as well as specification compliance.
