The Director of Process Innovation will lead and develop Birla Carbon’s Process Innovation teams in Marietta, GA and Taloja, India responsible for the pursuit and evaluation of novel process technologies company-wide along with development of plans to deploy technology-based solutions at industrial scale. The purpose of the position is to provide technical leadership and to leverage the broader group’s deep knowledge resources to enhance Birla Carbon’s processing capabilities. The position reports into the Chief R&D Officer and will work with R&D and Engineering management to develop the technical strategy for the Process Innovation group. The Technical Director needs to collaborate with the R&D and Manufacturing Technology Directors to set priorities for the projects in the group's portfolio.
Responsibilities
Lead Process Innovation group, develop organization, recruit, hire and develop scientists and engineers.Maintain succession plan.
Identify and prioritize continuous improvement innovation opportunities for our plants.Maintain full pipeline of projects.
Support new product development programs for both rubber and specialty carbon black businesses and for new materials innovation beyond carbon black.
Propose, evaluate and implement revolutionary process technologies based on continuous monitoring of industry trends, competitive development and fundamental scientific concepts.
Qualifications
An advanced degree (PhD or MS with 10+ years of industry experience) or equivalent experience (BS with 15+ years of industry experience) in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or related fields.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in management of technology, technical service, laboratories, new product development, managing a wide range of technical experience ranging from PhD to BSc to Associates levels.
Strong leadership skills and strategic problem-solving ability; ability to predict issues and identify solutions.
Ability to lead successfully within extended, global multinational project teams and handle multiple challenges under pressure.
Proven record of successful implementation of technology at commercial scale.
Demonstrated ability to overcome biases and to innovate.
Excellent communications and presentation skills – written and verbal; create and deliver summaries, development reports and presentations as needs.
Excellent organizational skills: Proactive, management of multiple tasks of varied complexity simultaneously.
Negotiation and strong persuasive abilities, diplomacy and positive influencing abilities.
