We are building a new venture capital investment firm that is focussed on life science, diagnostics and medical devices/ tools.
The role will be an integral member of the investment team at the firm and will work closely in tandem with the founding Partners and emerging investor team. This role will be wholly focused to the life sciences and will play a foundational role in defining our life sciences investments. An ideal candidate will present innovative solutions, streamline efficient processes, grasp various business models, demonstrate proficiency in conducting diligence, and showcase outstanding investment acumen.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Deal Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive market research, competitive analysis, and light financial modeling to evaluate investment opportunities in the biotech, medical tools, and diagnostics sectors. Assess potential risks and returns, and present findings to the investment team.
- Industry Analysis: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and trends in the biotech, medical tools, and diagnostics sectors. Identify emerging technologies and potential investment opportunities through active networking and participation in relevant industry events.
- Portfolio Management: Work closely with portfolio companies to provide strategic guidance, operational support, and access to our network of industry experts. Monitor and track portfolio company performance, including financials, milestones, and key operational metrics.
- Investment Reporting: Prepare investment memos, presentations, and reports for the firm's partners and investors. Present findings, progress updates, and investment recommendations to internal stakeholders.
- Due Diligence: Lead due diligence efforts by analyzing scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial aspects of potential investments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientific experts, legal counsel, and financial advisors, to assess investment viability and mitigate risks.
- Investment Execution: Support the investment process, including deal structuring, negotiation, and documentation. Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure smooth transaction execution.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the investment team to share insights, exchange ideas, and contribute to the overall investment strategy of the firm. Work closely with colleagues to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- You possess fluency and proficiency in financial modeling and delivering business presentations.
- You have obtained a PhD in a scientific discipline, or you possess a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field combined with an advanced degree, preferably an MBA or MD.
- You have acquired at least 2 years of industry experience working at an investment firm. We are seeking a genuine Principal-level team member.
- Your colleagues would describe you as a skilled communicator who is open and articulate in conveying ideas.
- You possess resourcefulness and a proactive attitude. No task is too big or too small for you, and you approach your work with a hands-on mentality. When faced with unfamiliar tasks, your initial response is to ask relevant questions, independently seek answers and context, and dive in with enthusiasm. While you are not afraid to attempt new things and learn from failures, you typically invest enough effort to minimize instances of failure.
- Lastly, your strong passion for investing and biotech is complemented by a foundational understanding of the healthcare industry and you’re willing to relocate to New York City over the next year.
- You place great value on cultivating relationships and possess exceptional interpersonal skills. You excel in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, and you find enjoyment in applying these skills to solve intricate problems. Attention to detail is a significant strength of yours, surpassing the ordinary.
