The physical and material chemistry group (Jier Huang group) in Department of Chemistry and the Schiller Institute of Integrated Science and Society sat Boston College seeks postdoctoral fellow to explore the design and structure-function analysis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) or metal organic frameworks (MOFs) for solar energy conversion. The successful candidate will pursue research on synthesis and design of new COFs and/or MOFs, as well as understanding the correlation of their structure with function for catalysis using state of the art techniques such as time resolved optical spectroscopy, time resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy, in situ X-ray absorption and X-ray scattering techniques.

Essential Functions: Carry out experimental research in organic and materials chemistry, characterization of optical properties and structure of hybrid materials, provide research summaries and reports and write first drafts of manuscripts.
Duties and Responsibilities: Comprehensive knowledge in material synthesis and understanding of state of art characterization techniques; Ability to develop and implement research plans, write scientific papers, and present the results at scientific meetings and conferences; Capability in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in the use of the equipment and techniques.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Earned doctorate (or its foreign equivalent) or appropriate terminal degree.
The position requires a PhD in organic/inorganic chemistry or related sciences. The candidate must have a strong background in organic and material synthesis. Experience with characterization of optical properties and structure of crystalline materials and molecular catalysts is a plus. The position is available immediately, and application will be accepted until the position is filled.
