Job Description
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics/Materials Science/Electrical Engineering/Chemistry. Experience working with organic semiconductor thin films and devices.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with the fabrication and characterization of organic semiconductor thin films and their integration into light-emitting devices. Strong understanding of optical properties of organic semiconductor thin films and the role of molecular orientation. Experience with table-top optics and spectroscopy.
Postdoctoral Positions in the Optical Engineering of Organic Semiconductors
Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science
University of Minnesota
We seek 1 to 2 postdoctoral associates for a joint project on engineering the optical behavior (e.g. birefringence, polarization behavior) of crystalline and polycrystalline organic semiconductor materials. Ideal candidates will have experience in combinations of the following areas: organic thin film and crystal growth, structural characterization by X-ray diffraction, ellipsometry of anisotropic materials, and electrical and optical measurements (especially measurements of OLEDs and light polarization behavior). Experience in simulating and modeling optical phenomenon in anisotropic optical media is also desired. Postdoctoral scholars will work in the Frisbie and Holmes research groups with access to a variety of state-of-the-art instrumentation for growth and characterization of organic materials and devices, including multiple film deposition systems, crystal growth apparatus, electrical and spectroscopic characterization tools, force microscopes, probe stations, a nanoimprinter and an aerosol jet printer. Central facilities including the Minnesota Nano Center and the Materials Characterization Facility provide a vast array of additional instrumentation resources. Candidates should be independent, possess excellent organization and communication abilities, and be comfortable interacting regularly with external stakeholders. We seek to fill these positions immediately. Qualified candidates will have a PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, and should be motivated to work in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment.
Sample preparation and characterization 70%
Data analysis and simulation 25%
Preparation of reports and presentations for sponsor 5%
