About The Position


The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to work on a project aiming to design a malaria vaccine antigen. Research approach will be driven by insights gained from studying antigen-antibody complexes. The postdoctoral fellow will focus on developing a new generation of immunogens suitable for structural and biophysical studies, and antibody production and immunochemical characterization.


This is an on-site position assigned to the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, in Silver Spring, Maryland. A thorough government background check will be required.

About The Project


“Rational Design of an Immunogen for Protection Against Plasmodium vivax Malaria”


The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to work on a project aiming to design a malaria vaccine antigen. Research approach will be driven by insights gained from studying antigen-antibody complexes. The postdoctoral fellow will focus on developing a new generation of immunogens suitable for structural and biophysical studies, and antibody production and immunochemical characterization.


Salary


$60,000. Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.


Responsibilities

  • Provide data management assistance
  • Contribute to the drafting and submitting of abstracts, manuscripts and reports for dissemination
  • Provide project close-out support
  • Prepare progress reports on research as required
  • Collaborate and assist the Principle Investigator, Co-Investigators and research team in the performance the research study
  • Present complex information effectively to a range of audiences
  • Analyze and write-up data


Qualifications

  • Independence, creativity, strong communication and writing skills are required
  • Candidates must be able to work with researchers of diverse backgrounds and scientific expertise
  • Work will involve routine immunizations/bleeds on mice. Experience or willingness to train and work with mice is a requirement
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, or other relevant field required
  • Experience with mammalian and/or bacterial expression systems, protein purification, and protein characterization is highly desired
