About The Position

The Geneva Foundation is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow who will work on-site at the Uniformed Services University (USU) Center for Biotechnology (4DBio3) in Rockville, MD. The mission of 4DBio3 is to promote the development and application of advanced biotechnologies within the Department of Defense to enhance the readiness, health, and well-being of America’s Warfighters, veterans, and families. Capabilities include additive manufacturing with an emphasis on bioprinting, tissue engineering, cell culture and characterization, and bioreactor design. We are currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in biomedical engineering to contribute to the development of in vitro cellular models. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in biomedical engineering or related field and have experience independently executing laboratory research with skills that may include microfluidic devices, CAD design, 3D printing, bioprinting, cell culture, and biological assays. The candidate will also contribute to the center’s educational mission by mentoring students or providing lectures.

This is an on-site position assigned to the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Rockville, MD. A thorough government background check will be required.

About The Project

One project will develop in vitro tissue models to study radiation exposure and countermeasure development. Another project will leverage microfluidics to enhance production and characterization of manufactured blood products. 4DBio3 is a dynamic research environment with projects and priorities changing to reflect the needs of the DoD. Successful people in this environment are adaptable and excited to work on a variety of projects.

Salary Range

$75,000 - $85,000. Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and write-up data
  • Present complex information effectively to a range of audiences
  • Prepare progress reports on research as required
  • Contribute to the drafting and submitting of abstracts, manuscripts and reports for dissemination
  • Maintain and update files of all applicable regulatory documentation for IACUC or IRB (including protocols, approvals, amendments, modifications, etc.) as well as any communications with the sponsor or any other Federal or regulatory office (including prior approvals, change in scope, etc.)
  • Provide data management assistance
  • Provide project close-out support
  • Collaborate and assist the Principle Investigator, Co-Investigators and research team in the performance the research study
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
  • Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office Software
  • PhD or MD required
  • Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and available to interact with employees, clients and sponsors of all levels
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and posses a positive, friendly and professional demeanor
  • Knowledge of military system, preferred
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressured environment with strict deadlines and to manage multiple projects
  • 1-2 years medical research project management experience strongly desired, preferably with Department of Defense
