FUNCTION The incumbent serves as an armed Police Officer at the CNN Washington, D.C. Bureau. The responsibilities include the physical protection of Turner/CNN employees and investigation a variety of suspected and known criminal acts against persons and property employed or owned and/or leased by CNN and Turner. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Serves as a deterrent of criminal or other unlawful behavior; detects and investigates unusual or suspicious persons/activity; defends Turner and CNN employees and guests from harm. Stands post in assigned area of facility or grounds according to established schedule(s); investigates unusual occurrences; writes incident reports on actual or potential loss of company or employee property through fire, theft or vandalism and interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects. Responds to various emergency situations in accordance with the oath of office. Response may include activities such as crowd control, physical intervention and restraint of unruly persons, first aid, CPR/AED, use of various police issued equipment and use of force up to and including deadly force. Ensures the safety of employees, staff, visitors and guests traversing private property between First St, NE and 820 First St, NE Washington, D.C. 20002. Performs other duties as a sworn peace officer commensurate with oath of office. REQUIREMENTS Must be able to follow complex directions; must be able to work rapidly and accurately in situations of high stress; ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and work well with employees, guests and supervisors. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.; be able to read and write in order to review and complete required incident reports and perform various record keeping activities at a level normally acquired through completion of high school. Must be at least 21 years of age and demonstrate an appropriate level of maturity to carry a firearm in the course of duties. Minimum two years law enforcement experience required. Should possess interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and communicate with a variety of employees, guests, and visitors, sometimes under potentially stressful situations. Must possess analytical skills necessary to ensure security of employees and visitors, prepare noncomplex incident reports and make rapid and sound decisions pertaining to the use of force, sometimes under stressful or potentially life-threatening conditions. Must possess and maintain the highest level of ethical and legal standards, to include compliance with all appropriate Federal, State and Local laws, Company Policy, Procedures and Departmental Directives, particularly as they relate to illegal substance and alcohol abuse. Must remain in good standing with Metropolitan Police Department. Maintain a neat and professional appearance while in uniform. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS Work requires walking and standing for long periods of time in various physical environments, including but not limited to heat and cold. Work requires ability to physically restrain and lift disruptive or injured individuals of varying sizes and weight. Work also requires ability to quickly go up and down multiple flights of stairs while wearing several pounds of duty equipment indicative of armed law enforcement personnel; ability to perform first aid and /or use CPR/AED to assist in a medical emergency. Work requires ability to safely handle and operate a semi-automatic firearm; including loading / unloading, chambering / clearing, holstering, drawing and firing while adhering to common safety standards and in accordance with applicable Metropolitan Police Department policies. Work requires ability to safely use less lethal weapons and control devices, such as oleoresin capsicum spray, expandable baton and handcuffs to gain control of unruly, violent or abusive persons in accordance with Metropolitan Police Department policies and procedures. CERTIFICATIONS Must maintain all required certifications and firearms qualification and training requirements in accordance with Metropolitan Police Department policies and procedures
