The Position:
The Partnership for Policing Innovation and Reform, a public safety non-profit headquartered in Miami, FL, seeks one (1) Police Data Specialist with mid-level experience and strong communication skills.
The selected individual will work on anhourly contractbasis as part of our Policing Lab program in close partnership with local police departments, to enhance the effective use of data and analytics, in an effort to reduce gun violence and improve public safety in the Miami area. This is your chance to use your analytical and technical skills to make a real difference in everyday lives.
ThePolicing Labprovides technical assistance, data analysis, and research services to reduce crime and increase equity in support of responsible police reform through intelligent, precise public safety strategies.
This position requires an onsite presence in the Miami area. The selected individual will be working alongside sworn officers and professional staff, andworking closely within analytical and technical teams to deliver operational products. Candidate selection will emphasize teamwork, commitment, and continuous improvement.
Location:
The selected candidate will work part-time on-site within the law enforcement agency, along with remote work as approved by the Policing Lab hiring manager.
Salary:
Compensation is competitive in Florida and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
· At least three (3) years’ experience working with current Microsoft 365 software and tools, including SharePoint, Teams, and Planner.
· At least two (2) years’ experience working with Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack (Power BI, SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS) or comparable.
·Creativity and communication skills; this role will focus on configuring platforms to meet law enforcement’s unique needs, with an emphasis on utilizing out-of-the-box capabilities before considering custom code solutions.
· Basic knowledge of law enforcement data systems, such as records management and computer-aided dispatch.
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
· Bachelor's degree required; fields of particular interest are criminal justice, economics, sociology, public policy, statistics, computer science, or similar.
· The candidate must be a current Florida resident or U.S. citizen who resides or is willing to relocate to the Miami area (U.S. citizen or green card holder; the position is not eligible for sponsorship).
Preferred Qualifications:
· Deep understanding of the Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, and Power Virtual Agents.
· Intermediate to expert-level understanding of writing and reviewing SQL.
· Knowledge and understanding of crime policy and violence research.
Job functions:
· Understand business requirements in the BI context and design products that convert raw data to meaningful insights.
· Create dashboards and interactive visual reports using Power BI or similar tools for use by various levels of law enforcement personnel.
· Analyze data and present insights to support decision-making and accountability workflow.
· Perform or collaborate on SQL querying of public safety data.
· Make technical changes to existing BI systems to enhance their performance.
· Maintain data integrity and security.
· Innovate and brainstorm on fresh ideas.
Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
· Assist in developing project strategies, including technical approaches, resource planning, and project schedules.
· Microsoft Power Platform environment deployment, configuration, and maintenance.
· Perform general system administration with Microsoft Power Platform and other systems as assigned.
· Perform regular maintenance on the Microsoft Power Platform including upgrades, custom scripts, assisting users in bulk updates, and monitoring license usage.
· Demonstrate successful solution architect role on enterprise implementations.
· Collaborate with department stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure solutions align with department goals.
· Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform ERDs for enterprise application design.
·Develop technical designs that favor using built-in Microsoft Power Platform functionality and configuration where needed.
· Configure Power Apps to develop intuitive applications that enhance back-end operational efficiency.
· Utilize Power Automate to automate workflows and processes.
· Configure Power Pages (Portals) for employee access and data submission.
· Build and configure Microsoft Power Platform forms, views, dashboards, and workflows.
· Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and adhere to best practices.
· Stay updated with the latest updates and features in the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem.
· Present findings to managers and partner agencies.
· Regularly communicate project status effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
