POSITION OVERVIEW:


This hockey analytics position will support player development hockey decision-making, collaborating across multiple different departments including athlete care, coaching, scouting and front office. The role will marry a strong technical foundation with a passion to create a better understanding the game of hockey. As a member of the analytics and player development team, this person will help leverage multiple large and complex data sets to provide insights for stakeholders in a critical, challenging, and dynamic environment. This is an entry level position, and the successful applicant will possess a strong technical foundation in quantitative analysis - Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics backgrounds are favored. The role requires strong team-oriented mindset that fits the self-starting, service oriented, performance driven culture of the organization and a passion to better understand the game of hockey.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW:
  • Contribute to the development of hockey thought and workflow optimization of the department and the holistic organization.
  • Identify opportunities to impact organizational workflow and decision-making through data-driven research or development of information systems.
  • Individualized profiling of physical and mental attributes that assist in performance, development and acquisition potential of players.
  • Creating analytical tools to support decision making of
  • Preparation of ad-hoc and periodic reports to support player development, pro scouting and amateur scouting.
  • Individual skill attributes for in-game focused interventions.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Focused on team results not individual accomplishments
  • Experience retrieving data from relational databases using SQL
  • Bachelor’s degree, higher education in technical discipline (computer science, engineering, mathematics/statistics, etc.) or professional relevant experience
  • Demonstrated passion for hockey and familiarity with hockey rules and terminology
  • Have a growth mentality, eager to learn and develop within our team
  • Be a critical thinker, eager to both give and receive feedback
  • Fluency in R or Python
  • Training in and/or experience with machine learning and other modeling techniques would be an asset
