The Irvine location of WATG seeks a Planning Intern.
ROLE
You will work with planners, architects, and other design team members on tasks and assignments to gain professional experience in a variety of resort, residential, and urban planning and design projects. You will also provide essential design and technical support to members of the team and assist with the preparation and updating of project deliverables. In your role, you will research, develop concept design, prepare documentation, drawings and sketches, and complete general administrative tasks for the Studio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works on planning projects as a collaborative member of a design team, participating in drafting, design development, and design charrettes to help define strategic goals for clients, large or small
- Assists with research for various planning projects and may conduct fieldwork
- Builds study and presentation models
- Receives hands-on learning and collaborates with designers, planners, architects, and other team members to plan, design, develop, and gain real-world experience
- Produces and updates graphic presentations, renderings, and technical drawings
- Supports project procedures, such as information organization, storage and retrieval
- May produce hand sketches to communicate design concepts
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
- Completed third year of an undergraduate program or first year of a graduate program and is returning to the program post-internship
- Experience in MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, SketchUp, and GIS preferred
- Freehand sketching skills desired
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Design, Planning or related program
