Physician Assistant- Orthopedics Jobs

Job Summary: Functions in an expanded role as a clinical professional, performing acts of medical diagnosis and prescription of medical therapeutics or corrective measures, in collaboration with a physician. The APP works with an interdisciplinary team of primary caregivers and administrative support staff to perform assigned duties while displaying the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct as well as acting in the best interest of employer, supporting our mission, vision, and values to optimize the health and well-being of our patients.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
• Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions
• Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis
• Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals
• Applies braces, casts, splints, and other orthopedic appliances
• Performs compartment pressure measurements, digital blocks and regional anesthesia
• Conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, takes call and sees patients in the ED for the orthopedic surgeon
• See hospital consults as requested
• Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate
• Orders, collects, and performs appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies, such as routine laboratory tests, EMG, and radiologic examinations including arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and bone scan studies
• Performs closed reductions of fractures and dislocations
• Performs minor outpatient surgical procedures such as tendon repair, wound closure and management, incision and drainage, needle biopsy percutaneous pinning of fractures, k-wire and hardware removal
• Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as aspirations and injections of joints, bursae, and cysts
• Formulates a treatment plan for orthopedic conditions within their scope of practice
• Assists in the surgical suite including first assist, deep and superficial wound closure, application of internal devices and any other procedures delegated by the supervising orthopedic surgeon
