Job Description
PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER - FULL TIME Atlanta, GA


Atlanta Classical Academy seeks a full-time Physical Education Teacher. Physical education teachers are expected to demonstrate high moral character and subject matter mastery. Teachers are expected to work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful. Teachers are generally salaried, exempt positions with base standard hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Follows school policies and procedures for protecting health, safety and well-being of children and youth
  • Creates physical education curriculum with an emphasis on effort and attitude
  • Organizes, leads, instructs, and referees indoor and outdoor games, such as volleyball, baseball, and basketball
  • Assists with supervision of students in playground
  • Plans physical education program to promote development of student's physical attributes and social skills
  • Maintains confidentiality concerning education, health and personal information about students
  • May select, store, order, issue, and inventory equipment, materials, and supplies used in physical education programs.
  • Uses positive, effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Coordinates individual and team sports for students (grades 7+)
  • Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and respect for individual differences.
  • Coordinates individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics, gymnastics, or corrective exercises, determining type and level of difficulty of exercises, corrections needed and prescribed movements, applying knowledge of sports, physiology, and corrective techniques
  • Assists in the evaluation of the wellness policy implementation

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a clearance certificate from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting

About Atlanta Classical Academy:

Atlanta Classical Academy is an open-enrollment, public charter school open to students who reside within the Atlanta Public Schools district. The school opened in 2014 with grades K – 8, and has added a grade each year as students have advanced. It is now a K – 12 academy. The children of full-time employees have enrollment preference and would be offered a seat in the school.
