The City of Salem's Police Department (SPD) is hiring!


The City of Salem’s Police Department has a job opportunity for the photo red light / speed on green Special Investigator position.


The Photo Red Light / Speed on Green position processes photo red light and/or speed on green traffic violations and issues citations when appropriate. This position is specifically for photo red light only while on duty acting in an official capacity. No police, citation or arrest powers exist outside the afore mentioned duties.

What are the minimum qualifications?


  • Able to obtain Salem Police Reserve Officer status within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment).
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • Must pass the police background check and drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must be an honorably retired or retired in good standing Police Officer, Enforcement Deputy Sheriff, or State Trooper. If retired from the City of Salem, must have been retired more than 90 days by the new date of hire, or candidate is a current officer or officer who has separated from their previous agency in good standing. Officer is defined as Police Officer, Enforcement Deputy Sheriff, or State Trooper or other previously sworn certified Law Enforcement Officer.
