Phlebotomist-300 Peds10-6Pm

Collects , labels, and processes specimens from patients for analysis or referral to reference labs. Performs waived testing. Assists in training new employees and students in EHR, Harvest and phlebotomy skills. Responsible for coverage of all CRCH lab sites and transport of specimens when necessary.

• Obtains a variety of Laboratory specimens following established techniques and procedures to ensure specimen quality and accuracy of results.

• Completes "timeout for final check" for final check specimen labeling verification with each patient

• Follows established procedures for prioritizing "STAT" specimens. Follows established procedures for reporting "STAT" and "CRITICAL" value reports.

• Processes patient samples prior to analysis by either the in-office Laboratory or reference laboratories; follows established protocols for the handling

and labeling of specimens.

• Required to pull daily pending lists, release stored orders, and follow up with the providers when no specimens are received.

• Performs rounds throughout the building to collect specimens on an hourly or as needed basis.

• Assists nurses or Physicians with difficult sticks.

• Assists Laboratory staff in maintaining appropriate records and charting of patient results.

• Provides data necessary for accurate billing of procedures performed in-office to billing staff.

• Maintains inventory, rotates stock and orders Phlebotomy supplies according to established procedures and in a timely manner.
