Job Description

General Summary of Position
Responsible for increasing philanthropic income and growing the pipeline by strategy, execution and communications.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively manages a prospect solicitation pipeline by initiating and/or strengthening relationships with prospects to include face-to-face interactions. Builds strategic partnerships with those most invested in philanthropy (foundation and operating boards, physician leaders, executive team, auxiliary and volunteers, past donors and others who have influence within the MedStar community).
  • Continuously updates the relationship management data system.
  • Donor Engagement: Within the context of the moves management process, develops and executes actions on a personal portfolio of sustained giving prospects. Works in a disciplined and focused way to identify, cultivate and solicit donors capable of making gift commitments at the sustained giving level.
  • Provides patient stories and develops strategic mailing lists for direct mail solicitations.
  • Major Gifts: Develops moves management plans for prospective donors, strategies for engaging with all constituents, and a stewardship program for MedStar's most generous and loyal benefactors. Manages a personal portfolio of physician partners, qualified prospects and donors. Observes and uses established MedStar Philanthropy policies and operating procedures, including, regular, timely and accurate recording of activities and moves management in Raisers Edge.
  • Coordinates on-site activities for the annual associate giving campaign or assists in the development of a physician engagement and grateful patient program.
  • Donor Engagement: Effectively manages a prospect solicitation pipeline by initiating and/or strengthening relationships with prospects to include face-to-face interactions. Manages and coordinates all aspects of fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events for donors up to $10,000. Meets established philanthropy performance benchmarks. Provides patient stories and develops strategic mailing lists for direct mail solicitations.
  • Communications Participates in communication team meetings, coordinating agenda items and sending updates to the team. Manages the distribution of internal communications to the philanthropy team at MedStar Health. Helps manage direct response communications. Assists with stewardship communications. Maintains and regularly updates the philanthropy sections of the internal and external websites.
  • Develops moves management plans for prospective donors, strategies for engaging with all constituents, and a stewardship program for MedStar's most generous and loyal benefactors.
  • Major Gifts: Analyzes the current program and develop strategies for maximizing Return on Investment. Assists in identifying funding opportunities and cases for support. Assists in implementing a robust referral and prospect identification system, which may include techniques such as grateful patient gatherings and receptions.Â
  • Communications: Manages the collection, development, and distribution of various writing projects. Helps write, edit and analyze social media posts and digital communications for philanthropy. Coordinates and facilitates the creation of digital donor walls.
  • Meets established philanthropy performance benchmarks. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department in community outreach efforts as required including sponsorship solicitation and volunteer management.
  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events and/or assists in implementing a robust referral and prospect identification system, which may include techniques such as grateful patient gatherings and receptions.
  • Major Gifts: Assists in the development and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Actively educates physicians and clinicians and engages them in the fundraising/major gifts. Collaborates with philanthropy colleagues throughout the MedStar system as a member of the MedStar Health philanthropy team.
  • Communications: Assists VP and Director in support of philanthropy communications. Collaborates with philanthropy colleagues throughout the MedStar system as a member of the MedStar Health philanthropy team. Leads project management for design and writing collateral projects, system campaigns, and direct response.
  • Works in a disciplined and focused way to identify, cultivate and solicit donors capable of making gift commitments at the sustained giving level.
  • Donor Engagement: Actively educates physicians and clinicians and engages them in the grateful patient fundraising process. Collaborates with philanthropy colleagues throughout the MedStar system as a member of the MedStar Health philanthropy team. Continuously updates the relationship management data system with information related to donor strategies, moves, contacts and results. Coordinates on-site activities for the annual associate giving campaign.
  • Communications Assists with the onboarding of new philanthropy team members. Develops and maintains photographs and graphics that represents philanthropy. Assists with creating and editing various collateral pieces for constituents. Carries out communications, administrative, and related functions.
  • Major Gifts: Assists in the development of a physician engagement and grateful patient program, incorporating weekly interactions with his/her portfolio of physicians and clinicians, and their support staff. Builds strategic partnerships with those most invested in philanthropy (foundation and operating boards, physician leaders, executive team, auxiliary and volunteers, past donors and others who have influence within the MedStar community). Coordinates closely with MedStar Philanthropy Services for the implementation of shared services in sustained giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, grants and development back office operational support.


Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare required or
  • Related field. required

Experience

  • Raisers edge experience preferred
  • 3-4 years Related experience in philanthropy, ideally within a health system setting. required and

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive - CFRE International CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Adobe Cloud, specifically InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of fundraising database software, Raisers Edge.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software applications.
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication; demonstrated ability to be held accountable for results; demonstrated ability to be a positive, collaborative member of a philanthropy team; self-motivated, proactive, energetic and goal-oriented, with a sense of humor.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • In Communications specialty: Exceptional storytelling writing skills and copy editing.
