Job Description
Responsibilities:
Pharmacy Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing a variety of routine technical duties related to the purchasing, preparation, and dispensing medication in accordance with the applicable local, state, and federal laws.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Efficiently inventories, orders, stocks, and distributes pharmacy products.
  • Checks in orders, color-codes each product with expiration date, checks in any order that came via drop ship, rotates and dates medications for expiration when putting away the deliveries, make copies of invoices.
  • Picks and labels patient’s medication container/bag per the provider’s order; deliver medications to correct nursing unit and patient medication drawer after they have been checked by a pharmacist.
  • Runs weekly and monthly pharmacy reports.
  • Cognizant of local, state, federal, reviewing bodies, regulations and laws
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of drug names, routes of administration, dosage forms, drug interactions and pharmaceutical terms, abbreviations and symbols
  • Retrieves medication orders from nursing floors in a timely manner; labels, fills, and delivers all patient medications in a safe and timely manner.
  • Admits to and/or discharges patients from the pharmacy systems; process provider orders for each patient in the pharmacy systems and on weekly basis generates medical renewal sheets and delivers them to each unit.
  • Checks daily census for admitted, discharged, and transferred patients, retrieves discharged patients’ medications from floors.
  • Assists Pharmacist in fiduciary planning and seeks opportunities to reduce cost and minimize waste.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma and Alaska State Pharmacy Technician License required. Pharmacy Technician Certification is preferred. Relevant experience required.
