Department Description


The Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps and teaching) throughout the Medical Center complex 24 hours per day. The Department is comprised of three inpatient, six outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution. Staffing consists of professional and technical and administrative support personnel.

Responsibilities

One Community Health operates an in-house retail pharmacy that provides comprehensive pharmaceutical services. Our pharmacy staff are responsible for screening prescriptions for appropriateness and making interventions, preparing medications for dispensing, distribution activities, and providing patient consultations. Staff are responsible for appropriate prescription billing to multiple payers including third party insurances, Medicaid, Medicare D and Medicare B plans. Our pharmacy maintains compliance with multiple accrediting bodies and with State and Federal Laws and Regulations.

Technicians are responsible for providing drug dispensing and distribution activities, compounding prescriptions, maintaining pharmacy robotics, inventory management, prescription billing, processing payments for prescriptions and training other personnel. This position reports to the Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacy Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law.
  • Knowledge of current generic and brand name drugs, abbreviations, and drugs on current formulary. Ability to interpret and understand physician orders, pharmacy, and nursing records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of current Medi-Cal Formulary and other third-party billing systems.
  • Ability to perform pharmacy calculations accurately.
  • Valid California Pharmacy Technician License
  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology
  • Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent involvement with HIV/AIDS patients.
  • Familiarity with current HIV/AIDS drugs and treatment regimens.
  • Recent experience working in an outpatient pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Ability to operate pharmacy computer systems and other software programs.

Special Requirements

This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
