DAY-TO-DAY PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT - DSP
This part-time habilitation role with our human services nonprofit works during the day. The caregiver must have the ability and availability to work 8-hour shifts or other shifts as driven by operational needs.
As a Personal Care Assistant - DSP, your day involves providing support in community settings and connecting participants to community resources to facilitate their community integration. In this caregiver position, you teach socialization skills and activities of daily living, such as self-awareness and human development, menu planning, money management skills/budgeting, transportation and community orientation, and utilization of community resources to our participants with disabilities. You also assist individuals with personal hygiene as needed to ensure that they present themselves in a culturally valued, image-enhancing way.
When working on our habilitation team, you provide opportunities for leisure time activities and foster independence in the choice and participation of those activities. This may include identifying recreational activities in the community which meet an individual's interests and encourages/fosters connecting with friends, developing new relationships, volunteering, and community memberships. You ensure that all information regarding participants supported is maintained with the highest level of confidentiality, based on policies and procedures, within a manner based on dignity and respect to participants supported and regulations regarding participants' protected health information (HIPAA). You maintain knowledge of ongoing program issues and developments, as well as inform the supervisor of program issues and concerns. As a member of our habilitation team, you communicate in a professional manner, perform duties consistent with program and agency policies and procedures, and execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized, and training obtained in areas that constitute a risk.
In this caregiver position, you maintain a high level of professionalism and function as an ambassador for Easterseals RI to act as an intermediary between the employer, co-workers, and participants when necessary, and provide follow-up to the employer through phone calls and/or visits to the job site as needed. REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT - DSP
- Reliable and registered vehicle that may be required to transport clients with disabilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- High school diploma
- Valid driver's license
It is preferred that this day habilitation position has more than 2 years of related experience. A bachelor's or associate's degree in social work or a related field is also preferred. This caregiver position requires excellent communication and organizational skills.
