National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position that will be an integral part of the People and Culture (HR) team at the NFF, supporting all people, culture, and talent-related growth efforts for the organization.
- Collaborates with other team members to support the initiation of the onboarding process at NFF.
- Assists in the review of current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder diversity goals of NFF.
- Supports HR systems and employees in the use of HR technology.
- Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.
- Assists with the preparation of the performance review and leave processes.
- Completes and ensures I-9 compliance and administers the E-Verify process for all new hires.
- Monitors compliance requirements at the federal and state level and highlights any potential issues or legislative changes that may impact operations.
- Ensures mandatory training courses are updated and completed for new hires and existing staff.
- Administers employee health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Supports benefits open enrollment in partnership with the Chief People Officer and broker.
- Maintains knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
- Researches, develops, recommends, and presents creative strategies to foster the NFF’s diversity goals.
- Responds to the needs of NFF staff through multiple channels to include Teams, email, phone, and text messages.
- Files employee documents in their secure location and ensures file integrity is maintained.
- Assists with HR related audit requests and reporting.
- Collects and analyzes statistical data to evaluate NFF’s population in accordance with diversity standards and goals.
- Other people and culture-related duties, as assigned.
- Assists and prepares correspondence as requested.
- Prepares new employee personnel files. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in the HRIS.
- Prepare employee separations documentation, communicate to Payroll and IT, and conduct exit interviews. Terminate in all applicable vendors not limited to benefits.
- Manages the handbook and other related policy updates as necessary in partnership with the Chief People Officer.
- Experience and competency in HR information systems required.
- Nonprofit human resources experience preferred.
- Commitment to the mission of the NFF and familiarity with the U.S. Forest Service purpose and National Forest lands management is a plus.
- Professional HR Certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP) preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in Human Resources.
- BS/BA degree preferred, but not required.
- Remote work experience, ideally on a national, multi-state scale (preferred or required?)
- Ability to represent the NFF in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- The willingness and desire to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
- Knowledge and comfort with all Microsoft Office applications (Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrate a deep knowledge and familiarity with human resources best practices and a lens for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging best practices.
- Commitment to confidentiality and working in a diverse and multi-cultural work environment.
- Strong business acumen skills, from employment law and fundamental principles to creating fair and equitable people and culture processes.
- Ability to manage and utilize cloud based human resources information systems.
- Strong customer service and solutions orientation, in addition to attention to detail.
- Continuous learner who regularly stays up-to-date on common benefit practices, human resource compliance requirements, as well as emerging technology and related human resource practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, promoting mutual accountability and inspiring trust and confidence from NFF colleagues.
