General Summary


  • Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs delegated patient care functions of an uncomplicated nature. Uses the nursing care plan in providing care. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.


Qualifications


Education and Experience


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Nursing Assistant Certification required.
  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant's program, or equivalent work experience as a nursing assistant.
  • Six months of prior direct, patient care work experience in a health care facility is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities


  • Demonstrates sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and responds promptly to verbal and/or written instructions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of universal blood and body fluids precautions and aseptic technique.
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of patient care.
  • Ability to learn and perform CPR procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic patient care skills, such as bathing, taking and recording vital signs, feeding, and weighing patients.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
